Once a frail, skeletal puppy on the streets of Detroit, Arkansas was saved from the brink of death. His once haunting figure is now that of a healthy and happy pup, all thanks to the generous donors who made his recovery possible. In the unforgiving streets of Detroit, a 7-month-old Dalmatian puppy teetered on the edge of life and death. Weighing only 18 pounds, his frail frame and jutting bones told a harrowing tale of extreme neglect. Fortunately, a kind-hearted passerby noticed him and simply couldn't ignore his plight, rushing him to our rescue facility without a moment to waste. Time was critical, and we didn’t have much of it at all.

Upon arrival, Arkansas showed little interest in food or play. His skeletal condition had compromised his organs, and he was severely malnourished. Every movement, albeit slight, was an ongoing battle. Our dedicated veterinary team SPRANG into action, administering fluids and high-calorie supplements to stabilize his condition. With each passing day, Arkansas fought valiantly against the odds, driven by an unyielding spirit.

But his journey ahead was far from over.

Weeks of meticulous care followed. Thankfully, Arkansas responded quite nicely to his treatments, eating well and taking his medication regularly. He relished in donated toys and treats throughout this time, showcasing the happy boy he had always been deep down inside. His weight gradually increased, a heartening sign of his body's slow but steady rejuvenation. Additionally, his coat began to regain its sheen, and a slight sparkle returned to his eyes.

Once he was well enough, Arkansas was then placed in a loving foster home, where he learned to trust humans again and experienced kindness in abundance! His foster family provided round-the-clock care, ensuring he had a plush bed, nutritious meals, and plenty of love. Arkansas thrived in this lovely new environment, his once lifeless demeanor replaced by a joyful and curious puppy spirit.

Now eight months old, Arkansas is unrecognizable from the emaciated pup once found on the streets. He weighs a healthy 28 pounds and has formed bonds with children, cats, and other dogs in his foster home. Even goats at the rescue fell for his gentle nature as he gave them sweet, friendly kisses through the fence. He walks well on a leash, loves to follow his foster family around, and has made impressive strides in his potty training.
