Cody’s story was absolutely heartbreaking, but thanks to you, we have blessed him with a happily ever after! When this senior boy initially arrived at our rescue, we were devastated to learn that he had been shot 32 times—yes, you heard that right— and left with 40 buckshot throughout his body. He underwent critical surgery, and now, we are thrilled to share that he is healed and full of life. Read on to learn about Cody’s incredible transformation. 

Some cruel person used Cody for close-range shooting practice. 32 separate times, they shot this poor pup, causing him unfathomable pain and torment. Over time, he had nearly 40 buckshot embedded deep within his frail body. But we didn’t know this at first; the pellets were lodged deep and had been there for quite some time, the pain of them all too normal for Cody. 

The senior dog found temporary solace within a rescue that, sadly, was on the brink of closure. When they officially shut their doors, they sought the support of other rescues to welcome in some of their pups. We agreed to take in Cody and were informed that he was blind in one eye—but that was all. 

Days after his arrival, Cody began showing worrisome symptoms such as lethargy, severe nasal discharge, eye issues, and muscle loss. We did everything we could to curb his worsening health through antibiotics, fluids, and bloodwork, but nothing seemed to be helping. With no other options, we rushed him to the vet. 

That’s when we learned about the horrific truth of the embedded buckshot. They had caused extensive damage and were submerged all throughout his body. One was even lodged in his eye, the culprit behind the vision loss. Another pellet was lodged in his sinus cavity, contributing to severe infection and lead poisoning, threatening his life. 

With no time to waste, Cody underwent a painstaking three-hour surgery. The surgical team successfully removed his infected eye and extracted 8–10 of the most dangerous pellets. Post-surgery, Cody began his journey to recovery, gaining strength little by little. As the days went on, he improved a bit more, becoming more animated and lively. He was definitely feeling better, eager to play a little longer and soak up all of the love we provided him.

To our amazement, incredible gifts and donations began pouring in for Cody. We were at a sudden loss of words, overwhelmed with gratitude for our remarkable CUDDLY community. The monetary donations allowed us to pay for his surgery, and the gifts helped us shine some much-needed light on this senior boy’s life. We truly could not have made this possible without your support!

One beautiful day, Cody’s healing journey came full circle when he was lovingly adopted! Now safely within a forever home, Cody enjoys the love and safety he deserves and has likely never known. Gradually, he is learning to trust humans again, understanding that there is still good in the world. It will take time to heal his emotional scars, but we are elated to know that he is now safe and will always be protected!
