Bentley's beginnings were devastating. He was found as a little puppy, lying motionless beside his deceased sibling. But today, Bentley's painful past is behind him. He’s been healed, loved, and is now living happily in his forever home. Read on to discover how YOU saved this sweet boy's life.

In August 2024, the Youngstown Police Department responded to a harrowing scene on the East Side of Youngstown, Ohio. Upon assessing the property, they stumbled upon Bentley, a five-month-old puppy, gasping in horror. He was SEVERELY emaciated, dehydrated, and barely holding onto life. They called our humane agents immediately, and we rushed over without a moment to waste.

The sight of sweet Bentley was horrifying. We were at a complete loss for words, struggling to understand how someone could neglect an innocent life so terribly. He was so weak (only 11 pounds) that he couldn’t raise his head, but to our amazement, he managed to lift his nose. His exhausted eyes flickered with hope as he peered up at us from the grass. It was as though he knew help had finally arrived, and he wanted to survive.

Our dedicated team scooped up Bentley’s skeletal body and hurried him to our trusted medical team for immediate stabilization. Once his sodium and electrolyte levels were adjusted, he was swiftly transferred to Akron MedVet. Upon arrival, he spent critical days in the ICU, receiving intensive, life-saving treatments.

The road to recovery demanded a lot out of us. Bentley needed constant monitoring and a carefully orchestrated re-feeding plan to safely regain weight. The medical bills began to rack up, a substantial amount for our nonprofit rescue. But through each day, Bentley showed remarkable resilience. Slowly but surely, his body temperature increased, and his strength returned. He began to lift his head; he was coming back to life.

The beautiful day came when Bentley sprang out of the hospital! He had healed enough to be transferred back to our Animal Charity clinic, where he continued to rest and recover. We kept him warm and comforted, following through on his strict re-feeding program. At this point, it was difficult to believe that Bentley was the same near-lifeless puppy we had rescued just a few weeks prior.

Now, about half a year later, Bentley’s story has come full circle. As we write this, he is a happy and healthy boy, hardly recognizable at all! He was adopted by a wonderful family who had also previously welcomed another rescue, Eloise. Bentley now thrives with his fur sibling in an environment filled with love and warmth, far removed from his painful origins. Thanks to you, this precious boy has been blessed with a beautiful new life.
