We are overjoyed to share that Jack, the little puppy who had been kicked in the head and abandoned at the vet, was lovingly adopted! As we write this, we can hardly wipe the smiles from our faces. In the beginning, he was treated so horribly, but this little warrior let nothing stand in his way. His will to live was too strong.

It was early in the day when a Good Samaritan approached the vet clinic with his dog. Faint whimpers drew his attention to a trembling puppy, no more than three weeks old, with an impossibly swollen face and a wound just above one of his eyes. The Samaritan rushed Jack inside but couldn’t afford the medical care the poor boy needed. The shelter wasn’t an option—Jack would likely be euthanized. Fortunately, the vet team reached out to Bailing Out Bentley, and we agreed to take him in, rushing straight over.

We knew in our hearts that Jack had been abused, and a thorough vet exam confirmed our theory: the poor little baby had been kicked in the head. We don't understand how someone could do such a cruel thing. Right away, Jack was given IV fluids, anti-inflammatories, and pain relief. After urgent care, he was transferred to our rescue, where he continued to recover in a warm and safe environment.

Slowly but surely, Jack began to show progress. He even managed to stand up and eat on his own! He slept a lot, but hearing him cry in his sleep broke our hearts. Our team did everything we could to keep him as comfortable as possible. Then, just as the situation was starting to look up, Jack experienced seizures.

An emergency MRI was performed by a neurologist that next morning, which revealed multiple old and new skull fractures. He had suffered blunt-force trauma to his skull recently and several times before. To compound the situation, his injured eye got infected and then ruptured, possibly necessitating removal. Also, his good eye wasn’t producing tears, so he was given special drops to keep it lubricated and prevent ulcers. He was sent home with a cocktail of medications to promote a swift recovery.

We monitored Jack for the next couple of months—his head trauma, behavior, and the state of his eyes. We didn’t know what was in store for any of us. Jack was frightened, and so were we. But he kept fighting, and we stood by, hoping he would eventually heal. And miraculously, he did! The infection in his eye dissipated, and the tissue healed—he didn’t need an enucleation (surgery to remove the eye) after all! Unfortunately, he still has only minimal vision in that eye, and the neurologist recommended that he continue taking the seizure medication throughout his entire life. But Jack didn’t let this stop him.

The moment Jack felt better, he ran around like a playful, normal puppy. And just a month after he healed, this sweetheart was lovingly adopted. He now has a big brother, Charlie, who only has one eye, and two cat sisters—one of whom is completely blind. It’s as if fate led him exactly where he was meant to be. His new mom didn’t just give him a home—she gave him a family that truly understands him.

To everyone who donated through CUDDLY, shared Jack's story, and rooted for his recovery—thank you. You made this possible. Jack’s transformation is a living, breathing reminder of why we do what we do. Welcome to your happily ever after, Jack Jack. We love you always.
