Sweet Maya came to Golden Retriever Rescue Alliance as an owner surrender at around 3 years old. She is the sweetest girl but unfortunately, Maya suffers from severe allergies. As you can see from the photos, her skin was severely irritated and her ears are swollen shut. Her tummy is black because of her skin irritation. Golden's should never have black tummies.

Maya was evaluated by a veterinary dermatologist, but she needed further allergy testing. This poor girl was so itchy and uncomfortable and thanks to many Maya lovers out there, funds necessary to get Maya in for allergy testing with a canine dermatologist were collected quickly.

For those who don't know how it works, a portion of the skin is shaved down, and a series of dots are drawn on the skin. Then, the dog is injected with tiny amounts of allergens, which are charted with the corresponding dot. The reactions are monitored by the vet and the bigger the reaction, the more allergic the dog is. This helps us pinpoint exactly what Maya is allergic to, which as you can tell from her pictures, is just about everything! That explains why she has been in such rough shape and itching like crazy.

It was determined that Maya will need weekly allergy injections for life. So, after all that, her fosters decided they were totally in love and had to adopt her. They will be taking over caring for her financially now. The best part? Maya's (now Mimi) family adopted Trooper and Winston (aka Thor), who are both GRRALL dogs. Mimi is pictured here with Winston, the love of her life

Please join us in wishing them well and here's to some relief for Maya! Thank you to all of you who made this journey possible for Maya by donating to her fundraiser and sharing her story. We couldn't be happier for her. #adoptdontshop #fosteringsaveslives #rescueneversleeps
