Mikee

Mikee and his nine other siblings were born in a homeless camp on the side of the road. When one of the puppies passed away and the rest stopped nursing, a homeless woman agreed to let Everglades Angels Dog Rescue care for them.

Once all of the pups were able to receive medical attention, the vet immediately realized that Mikee had pulmonary stenosis (a valve in his heart was partially sealed shut) with a grade 4 heart murmur. His other siblings were very weak but did not have the same defect. They knew they were going to have to take Mikee to see a cardiologist specialist.

Mikee, only 5-weeks-old at the time, had to be at least six months of age for this life saving surgery to be performed. During this waiting period, ultrasounds tracked his heart's deterioration. His heart pressure should have been 20 but his was 90, which is in the critical range. Everglades Angels volunteers have been so careful not to allow him to overexert and cause more heart damage. He is also on heart medication to assist in keeping the pressure down.

This Surgery was 3,000 dollars plus recovery time. Thanks to everyone who donated and sent wonderful items Mikee was able to afford his surgery and recover in style. Though Mikee ended up being just $162 dollars short of his goal Mikee got his surgery and is still waiting to find the fur-ever home of his dreams that can handle a loving special needs puppy.
