Starfish was sitting in a rural shelter. Her back-end paralyzed; she was soaked in urine, feces, and mud. Something traumatic happened to her two weeks before that, and her "owners" decided to drop her at the shelter weeks later. She was in utter despair, dirty, and her world had just crumbled. Starfish had been dragging her body on the shelter floor wondering where she is to go next.
A shelter volunteer pleaded with over one dozen rescues to please help her and none of them responded. When the volunteer initially called Second Chance Rescue, they had to say no -- just an hour before, they had taken in Tattoo, a paralyzed Maltese. They were reluctant to take in another dog who needed to be placed in a wheelchair; after all, rescues have a tough time adopting out paralyzed dogs and thus, many end up sitting in boarding for too long.
However, Second Chance could not get Starfish out of their minds. They circled back with the volunteer two days later and asked/hoped that a good rescue had saved her. When they were told Starfish was still there, they knew they had to help save her knowing that she'll be put down without help. Thanks to that we were able to get Starfish's story out into the world and in amazing super hero like fashion our wonderful donors rallied behind sweet starfish, not only fully funding Starfish's $3,500 but eclipsing it by more than double giving Second Chance Rescue an extra $3,761 to really go all out for Starfish's medical care. That plus the boxes and boxes of items from her wishlist provided everything starfish needed to heal in a way we never thought possible.
Thanks to everyone who donated to Starfish she was able to run into the arms of her new family! We know starfish as well as her new mommy and daddy will for ever be grateful to everyone who donated and help them all get their happy ending together.
