When Love Leo Rescue received the urgent plea to help Mae who was found wandering the streets in Mexico, they didn't even have to think. Even though rescuers had already committed to saving several other dogs from south of the border, all it took was one at Mae's condition for them to say YES!

Mae was only a year old, but you wouldn't even know she was a puppy because of her horrendous condition. She was emaciated, infested with parasites, missing patches of fur, and suffering from severe mange and secondary skin infections. To put it in perspective how skinny she was, she should weigh at least 50 pounds, but she only weighed 35 pounds. Mae's hind legs were so weak and atrophy that she could barely stand on her own, and her eyes were scarred from all the trauma.

Immediately after coming into rescuers' care, Mae was hospitalized for three days to receive treatment for her skin. Then, once she arrived in her foster home, her personality began to blossom. After a nice bath, some nutritious food, and TLC, she turned into a completely different girl. Slowly but surely, Mae started to heal - physically and emotionally.

It's hard to believe that this is even the same dog! When she came to Love Leo, she was so sick she could hardly stand or keep her head up. Cat G. and her family provided her with the love and support of an incredible foster home, and medicine treated her various ailments. Even her leg, which rescuers originally thought may have to be amputated, is healing beautifully. This girl is what rescue is all about. Giving dogs that had no chance their chance.

That being said, we are so grateful to all of you who donated towards Mae's care. Grateful to those who brought her to rescuers' attention and making sure she landed in the right place. Grateful to the folks in Mexico who got her off the streets. And thank you to her incredible humom who saw Mae's true beauty shining through. Journeys like this make all the hard work worth it!
