Late at night on July 1st, Tails To The Wind received a call about five puppies that were found in the bottom of a dumpster in Bakersfield, California. Knowing it had been over 100 degrees, they rushed to the scene to save these innocent babies from a brutal fate.?
All five puppies were pale, panting, and lethargic. Rescuers immediately had them Parvo and Distemper tested and given sub-q fluids. Unfortunately, the woman who rescued them from the dumpster said that she could not keep them longer than the night and she would have to put them back on the street the next day if no one could take them. Even though Tails To The Wind was completely full and closed for intake, these puppies literally had nowhere to go. They were going to wind up back on the street, so they had no other option other than to bring them into their care. ?
On top of being severely malnourished and dehydrated, the puppies were covered from head to toe in fleas and had bellies full of worms, and were treated right away. Rescuers were very worried because they recently learned that Bakersfield is a hotspot for Distemper right now, but it seemed like luck was finally on their side because after a two-week quarantine they tested negative!
After only a few weeks, all five puppies made an incredible recovery. They completely recovered from their fleas and parasites, received general vet care, were neutered/spayed, and last week, they were available for adoption. Well, we are over the moon to announce that within only a few days Jonathan, Danny, and Jordan already found their forever homes!
Because of you all, these precious puppies will NEVER be considered trash and thrown in a dumpster again. They were able to raise almost $3,000 and received SO many healing items from their wishlist which aided in their speedy recovery. We cannot thank you enough for helping give these five babies a second chance at life!
