After being stuck in a trap for days, Skye's tummy was not just rumbling, she was STARVING. She was becoming skin and bones, so she cried out for someone to help.. but no one came. She started to lose hope, thinking she would die in that very spot, she did what had to be done. She started chewing at her toes, foot, and ankle until finally she was free from that deathtrap. 

The sweet young pup did eventually gnaw her entire foot off due to, not only trying to break free, but also from utter desperation. Naturally, Rescuers were shocked at the condition that they found this young German Shepard in. Years and years of working with animals didn’t prepare rescuers at Our Pet Project INC for how gruesome and movie-like Skye’s case would be. Luckily, they were able to rush her to the doctor after getting eyes on this sweet girl. Due to severe infection and injury, doctors could not save this baby pup’s hind leg and within weeks she became a tripod. While rescuers felt maybe this young pup would never be the same, Skye’s amazing foster reported quite the opposite! During recovery she really transformed, at first, she was still hazy from the surgery but this angel was snuggly and even though she wanted to play, her foster was able to use many toys sent by donors around the country to help occupy her during her healing phase. Within only a month, fosters were so happy to report that this bundle of puppy love was sprinting in the backyard and playing with all the toys and gifts she received. Soon, her pain and tale of human depravity became the distant past, and she had truly blossomed into a resilient, happy young puppy!

Rescuers at Our Pet Project, INC thought it would take this sweet baby much more time to trust and heal, but she was so ready to get her past behind her, that she reached the goal of being up for adoption within only a few short months! Believe it or not, this story actually gets better, thanks to the nationwide coverage, Skye’s adoptive mother spotted her on CUDDLY and felt compelled to keep an eye on her campaign as her health increased. The minute the amazing team of rescuers put this loving girl up for adoption, the soon-to-be dog mother contacted rescuers and asked to adopt this wonderful survivor! After some online meetings and the normal adoption process, Skye’s forever family made the trek to Humble, Texas all the way from Oklahoma! 

Stories like these are what make all the struggle and strife worthwhile for rescuers and donors alike. When everyone comes together to help one incredibly trodden-down animal, a difference can truly be made. Without the help from amazing donors like you, Skye’s adoptive mom would not have even heard of her, as our platform would cease to exist!
