Meet Anito, a baby kinkajou who survived botflies and abandonment

Anito is an orphaned baby kinkajou in Toucan Rescue Ranch's care. He is one of our youngest orphaned kinkajous at the moment. He was found on the ground with no mom after a huge thunderstorm in San Carlos, Costa Rica. The neighbors of the area saw him falling from a tree and waited for his family to return for him, without success. When they approached it, they could see he was injured, and so they called the wildlife police for him to be immediately rescued.

When he arrived at Toucan Rescue Ranch, the Veterinary Team checked his wounds and learned he had two huge bot flies on his leg. This is a really painful experience since larvae dive into the bite wound and burrow face-first under the surface of the skin, creating little holes for themselves. Additionally, when the insects twist themselves around, the animal experience "intermittent stabbing pains."

Well, look at Anito now!! This wide-eyed cutie boy is doing so well and has completely recovered from his injuries. Once the botflies were removed it was instant relief for this little guy. He had been experiencing unimaginable pain, so to have kind and caring people care for him and remove these nasty bugs was life-changing!

He had an infection due to how long the bugs have been in his leg, but after they were removed he was put on pain medication to help with the infection and within a week, he was doing SO much better, some would actually say, thriving.

Thanks to your amazing generosity and kindness, we were able to so send sweet Anito back to the wild! We were so sad to see him go, but it is our goal to always be able to re-wild our animals. We just want to say a huge thank you for assisting us in raising 100% of our goal in UNDER A WEEK! We can’t show you how grateful we are that we are able to do what we do, and it’s only because of our amazing supporters.

Thank you CUDDLY for allowing us to get the story out there and giving us a platform to raise the funds needed!
