Pitbull

This furry little guy you see above you, who seems to be smiling through his pain, has officially stolen our hearts. Meet Pitbull—a young, fragile Sloth who was brought into TRR with extremely severe injuries. It was thought that he had been attacked by a dog but after further investigation, it seems that he may have been horribly electrocuted.

Electrocution injuries are extremely tricky, as the long-term effects of the shock can be disastrous on one’s internal organs. The team at Toucan Rescue Ranch had to perform emergency surgery to amputate his arm because he had a severe infection; but because the tissue around Pitbull’s electrocution site was already necrotic, the team didn’t have much healthy tissue to work with — so his injury had to be left open for now…

We were nervous to see if the tissue was going to heal and if an infection was going to be in his future. We are so happy to report that the wound closed AND there was no infection on site! This couldn’t have been better news, we are so thankful.

For now, Pitbull is being rehabilitated in his enclosure. It is our goal to always re-home our animals back into the wild, but for now it would be irresponsible for us to let him go without the proper training and recovery, so he will stay with us until that time!

Thanks to CUDDLY and all of our amazing supporters, Pitbull was able to raise 100% of the funds needed for his treatment! We couldn’t believe it. We are continuously blown out of the water by the amazing remote rescuers who give so generously to these animals so that they can live long and full lives!
