Dean came to us from a terrible situation: His rescuer, Craig Bellinger, died in his car while transporting other animals. Animal control took the animals in the car but did not know about the animals at home. We received the call from a supporter of ours that the rescuer had passed away from his mother, in desperate need of help correcting the affairs.
When we arrived at the "home" we found 2 properties with RVs lined with dog crates. inside the first RV was so horrid that our team could only spend about 5 min at a time inside, due to condition and air quality. This RV we pulled out 12 living Dogs and 2 deceased. At the second Property we pulled out 2 deceased, none were living.
After getting back to our rescue from a 17 hour experience of no other, we named each dog in Memory of a Tow Truck Driver that had lost their life on the Job. Dean was named after Dean E. Light, a Tow Truck Driver that had died in Pennsylvania.
We had many things to do to the LITTLE RESCUED HEARTS, in the name of Craig Bellinger, as some came in sick and some needing surgery. Dean was one of the lucky ones to only have a cough. With proper nutrition and cleaning we were able to get Dean ready for the vet. The vet was able to say Dean was about 10 years old and lucky to survive the conditions he was in. After getting him up to date on shots, neutered and micro-chipped we were able to begin looking for a home for him. While we looked for a new home we were able to place him in a foster home to help him recover and learn to be a dog again.
While in the foster home, the fosters sister, who lives in Pennsylvania, got word about Dean and reached out the the rescue she helps, Paws Across Pittsburgh, and asked if we could transfer Dean to them. We all agreed but the challenge became to get Dean there, over 2500 miles across the nation. With all our supporters, supporters from Cuddly and the great work from Volunteers from Hooks Home Bound Rescue, we were able to get Dean his Health Certificate, flight and transport to Pittsburgh all set up.
Even though his foster gave him a farewell party, to liven the mood, the day finally came to say Good bye to Dean and the tears started flowing. Dean became a champ and wagged his tail one more time in California as he was taken to a volunteer flight attendant waiting at LAX. He flew first class, like a hero should, all the way to St. Louis, then explored the airport there for a potty break, then flew first class again to Pittsburgh. When he arrived at Pittsburgh he was greeted with hugs and kisses from his new foster and possible forever home.
We can not thank everyone enough for their awesome support for Dean and all our babies. Thank you again.
