It was only a short time ago that this sweet girl was given a death sentence due to a life-threatening disease. She was dumped, and left for dead in rural Oklahoma. Her previous owner didn’t care what happened to her, and when she eventually ended up at the outdoor shelter things seemed to look up if only for a moment…before plummeting straight down when only 3 days later she was found barely clinging to life.

It was parvo; a highly contagious disease that is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with their feces. It has a 90% mortality rate if untreated and its chosen victims are almost always puppies. She was only 10 months old and she was already consigned to death.

We knew what we were getting into, and we knew what we were asking her to do. Parvo is deadly but it CAN BE and HAS BEEN beaten. Still, the battle ahead of her was not going to be easy. She needed our support and we were going to do everything we could to give it to her. It was very touch-and-go at first, and we needed to move her to newer more expensive IV meds and antibiotics before her health began to improve. However, sure enough, she soon began to get better. She was perking up and starting to be playful. She was herding, happy, and sassy...there was no limit to what this girl could do!

With the lovely help from her donors, our excellent vet, and her awesome foster she was able to make a full recovery. The battle had been won, and our girl was doing great! This had all occurred because her previous owners never got her vaccinated, but maybe if they had been more responsible she would never have been able to meet her new family who loves her so much more than her old one ever could.

“From her mom: Aries, formerly Sam, has definitely stolen our hearts. She spends her workdays keeping her new dad in line, as he goes about his farrier appointments. She really isn't sure how he ever got by without her! She doesn't meet strangers until she has learned that dad is okay talking to other people. She is fiercely protective but is quickly learning that she can relax until we say different. Other times, she can be found romping and playing with her new brothers and sisters or lounging around the house until bedtime.

On cool nights she likes to snuggle between mom and dad with her own blanket. If it happens to be a warm night, she can be found sleeping on her bed, or on the back deck with her big sisters, Atoka and Willow. It didn't take her long to master both of the doggy doors and figure out that she can come and go as she pleases. Whether she is playing in her big fenced backyard or snuggling in the house, she has definitely made herself at home! We are so glad she chose us and a huge thanks and shoutout to Sweet Paws and supporters for helping her find her way to us!!

PS: She also discovered how fun it is to run around the backyard in the rain and then zoom through the doggy door and shake all over mom and dad.”

Her new family is amazing and loves animals as much as we do! They even run a sanctuary. That means she gets to meet and play with animals every day!

Aries (formally Sam) is healthy, happy, and HOME…and we couldn’t have gotten her there without your help. Thank you so much for taking this journey with us and seeing it through to the end. Thank you.
