Deputy came to Redstone after he was given away because his original owners had a baby. He no longer was compatible with their lifestyle and so he had to go. Sadly, his new owner did not care for him. He was left outside to be eaten by flies and bitten repeatedly by mosquitos. 💔

He was named for Deputy Nick Collins out of Arapahoe County after he risked his life to save several Huskies from a housefire.

Deputy had been to his wellness visit to be vaccinated and neutered and sadly, he is heartworm positive.  This was a devastating blow as it greatly delays when our dogs can be placed in homes and we wanted nothing more than this boy that had been so mistreated to find a family that would love him for the joy he can bring to a family.

It all happens for a reason, though. While he was undergoing treatment with us, a dog in Colorado was losing her battle to cancer. Her family had to let her go and after taking a little time to let their hearts heal, they reached out and we discussed options. Deputy we knew was good with kids and had lived harmoniously with his foster cats. It was Deputy that was the missing piece to their family puzzle.

Water damage put a hold on travel plans for Deputy, and we had to delay while construction was going on in their home so that it wouldn't cause undue stress for him.

On 11/19/22 Deputy and I drove to Amarillo while they drove form the Denver area of Colorado. We met late that afternoon and it was honestly like he was reuniting with people his heart had known his whole life.

Deputy made his way to his new Colorado home the next day where he will be loved. A bonus for us is he will officially be extended family as he was adopted by the director's cousin and her family! Welcome home, Deputy, may your years be filled with happiness for both you and your new family.
