When Moonpie had hobbled up to a local resident’s driveway in a last-ditch effort to find refuge, her appalling condition painted a beyond apparent and painfully clear picture of the horrific trauma she had endured in her lifetime.
The terror that must have consumed Moonpie as her skin practically melted away in clumps and with absolutely NO way of stopping it is beyond comprehension. It was unclear whether her condition was the result of chemical burns, extensive wounds that have turned into a very large abscess and raging infections, or both. Additionally, it was clear that she had had multiple litters from her hanging nipples. So, did someone use Moonpie for their own greedy profit and then dump her in this condition or did she sustain this trauma on the streets? While there were (and still are) so many unanswered questions about this innocent girl's past, what we DID know was that despite her condition being as clear as day, she had been overlooked, forgotten, and ignored...until the day she arrived at Tift Animal Rescue - because that was the first day in her life she was finally safe and seen.
Because Moonpie was critical and her body was full of infection with her skin deteriorating, if we are being honest, we didn’t know if she would recover, and if so, what damage was done. However, this girl is fierce. Fire in her soul and determined to beat the odds. She fought and fought hard. Vet visits, medical procedures, daily facial scrubs, medicated baths, and a whole lot of TLC, she won the battle! Although Moonpie did lose a portion of her upper left ear lobe, but minor in comparison to the injuries she overcame. We’ve never met such a loving soul after all she’s been through. Needless to say, Moonpie is one special girl…❤
A few days ago, Moonpie was adopted by her amazing foster parents, Meghan and EJ, and has a new brother named Tex, which she clearly adores! She is loved beyond measure and we are so thankful!! And of course, this couldn't have been possible without our amazing CUDDLY Fam who donated and supported her journey. When it comes to cases like Moonpie's, it truly takes a village and we cannot thank you all enough for making second chances like hers possible!
