Rapunzel

Instead of being locked in her tower like in the popular fairy tale, Rapunzel was cast out of the only place she called home and was forced to fend for herself. 

As a cat who was showing her age at over 12 years old, she became frail and meek with nowhere to turn for food or shelter besides what she could find on the streets. As if carrying the emotional weight of abandonment and negligence wasn’t enough, this sweet kitty was also shouldering an extra TWO(!) whole pounds of matted fur, tugging at her already tired and emaciated body with every step. 

Her body wasn’t the only physical pain she was feeling. A dangerous case of stomatitis (heavy inflammation in and around the mouth) brought intense oral pain, causing this feline princess to become a shrivel of her former self. She stopped eating almost completely after most of her teeth deteriorated and rotted away. This also made it very hard to groom herself, causing the mats to get swallowed in dirt, dust, and grime until we found her and rescued her. 

She had grueling dental surgery to take care of her rotting teeth. We bathed her and shaved her (it had to be done), and let her rest in her new bed, courtesy of a CUDDLY supporter. Finally, still almost nothing but skin and bone, she was able to start savoring her first bites of wet cat food. 

Slowly but surely, this sweet thing improved. There were some small stumbles along the way, like a sneezing fit which was quickly vanquished with antibiotics, but Rapunzel’s condition steadied and then stabilized. 

We are so grateful to our friends at CUDDLY, who actually played a small part in facilitating her adoption! One of her donors saw her initial campaign and contacted us about her. They even drove four hours from another state to meet her TWICE! 

Rapunzel’s story is so heartwarming if you look back at where she started. We can’t thank everyone enough for all the kind and generous support you gave Rapunzel and other cats like her. She has found a new beginning and reason to live and has blossomed into a bright-eyed, sweet kitty. We are blessed to help write a new chapter in her life, one where she is cherished and nurtured as she rightfully deserves. Thank you for your kindness and support!
