Boo

Back in September of 2023, 7-month-old Puppy Boo was found tied up in an encampment in the woods, surrounded by garbage and howling for help. He had been dumped by his owner after suffering for what could have been months with a traumatic shoulder injury. After coming across Boo in the woods, a local unhoused man recently reached out to Animal Control officers, offering to bring them to where young Boo was tethered. Fortunately, shortly after his rescue Boo made his way through our doors and we got right to work getting him the care he needed.

A thorough examination and several diagnostic tests revealed that Boo likely suffered severe physical trauma to his shoulder when he was very young, but was never treated. Without the opportunity to properly heal, the bones have fused incorrectly, becoming permanently deformed. If we wanted to keep Boo’s leg, this poor boy would be forced to endure multiple surgeries with no guarantee of life free of pain. To spare this sweet boy from all of that, we decided to amputate his injured limb.

We knew we would likely never know who was responsible for the mistreatment and abuse that was inflicted upon this poor puppy, but our primary focus was to help Boo heal. Boo had been the victim of terrible cruelty, but we were hopeful that we could give this sweet boy a second chance at a better life. Boo was still very young, which would allow him to heal quickly and easily after his surgery. Boo would also have the opportunity to adjust to life as a tripod with the support of our community around him.

Boo underwent surgery to have his leg removed, and was released back into our care shortly after the operation to begin his recovery. We soon learned what an incredibly special dog Boo is. Despite the pain and misery he had endured and having to adapt to life after the tragic loss of his leg, Boo remained an incredibly sweet and happy boy.  Boo's tail was always wagging, and he seemed to know he was loved and safe in our care. Without the support of the CUDDLY community, we would never be able to help dogs like Boo with such a high level of need. 

Over the month of September, Boo got plenty of rest in order for his body to fully heal. Before we knew it, our sweet boy was learning to walk on three legs. Even with all of the challenges he faced, Boo never lost his optimism, and we knew we could always rely on him to show us his beautiful smile. At the end of the month, Boo's stitches were removed. Unfortunately, we discovered he was dealing with some intestinal parasites, but we were able to clear them up quickly with a short treatment. It wasn't long before we were able to watch Boo run freely, and nothing could have given us more joy!

Boo has been so resilient, and we knew that after everything he had been through, he deserved the perfect family. Fortunately, that's exactly what Boo got! On October 21st, a family attending our adoption event took one look at Boo and collectively fell in love with him. It was one of the most joyful, poignant moments we have ever experienced in rescue. Boo, now Boomerang, will spend the rest of his life in a beautiful home filled with love and happiness, and surrounded by family.
