Lucas
Thank you so much for rallying beside Lucas and giving him the good life he had never known but always deserved. Your donations gave him healing, a chance to experience love, and a safe place to experience his golden years. Let's take a moment to reflect on his journey.
Poor, sweet Lucas was found wandering the streets at nine years old. He was 100% blind due to blunt force trauma to his head and untreated eye diseases. His emaciated body was littered with bite and puncture wounds, some new and some old. We have no idea what may have happened to him, but our hearts ache just thinking about it.
Thankfully, some Good Samaritans discovered Lucas and hurried him to the shelter. It was clear that he was in terrible shape and needed a lot of time, patience, and care to heal. His ears were swollen shut and riddled with infection, but he could still hear low and deep frequencies. His teeth were broken and rotten, with many in need of urgent extractions. But he could not go under anesthesia until he felt better.
We noted that something was wrong with Lucas’ eyes, but at that time, it was unclear whether he had any vision or not. The shelter's X-rays also indicated spinal compression and fusing in his lumbar, hip dysplasia, and severe arthritis, all of which caused serious pain. The shelter started him on anti-inflammatory medications, and our rescue organization pulled him shortly after.
Once safely within our care, Lucas’ treatment continued. We administered pain relief, antibiotics, wound care, and fed him nourishing, healthy food. It took him a few months to be well enough for surgery. When that day came, he had nine teeth extracted, and his eyes were assessed. That’s when we learned that he was 100% blind. The ailing senior had double cataract, phthisical blind eye, and secondary glaucoma. The pressure in his eyes caused constant pain and discomfort, and bilateral enucleation was recommended. And so Lucas underwent surgery to remove his eyes and some concerning masses, and he was also neutered while under.
Months later, we noticed some more worrisome masses, which were biopsied and sent off for testing. It turned out that he would, in fact, need these removed as well, and one more tooth needed to be extracted. We knew Lucas was reaching the final chapter of his journey—we could feel it. We just had to stand by his side a little bit longer, helping him overcome this final hurdle. We must also note that throughout all of this, Lucas never stopped wagging his tail. He was truly the happiest boy, grateful to finally receive care!
Our instincts were right. The beautiful day soon came when Lucas was lovingly adopted by a kind family with a ranch—lots of space for Lucas to walk around and explore! Not only did he strike gold in finding his new parents, but he also gained two sisters, Blueberry & Sadie. He and his siblings are truly a match made in heaven! His family even created a social media account for him, @lucas_with_the_ladies, where they shared adorable photos of him soaking up all the love.
On June 29, 2024, Lucas crossed the rainbow bridge. 🌈 He spent many years with his beautiful family, finally learning what it meant to be loved, truly and unconditionally. We are beyond grateful that he had the opportunity to experience so much joy and love.
Thanks to you, we were able to give Lucas the healing support he needed to have the most wonderful golden years. Thank you for donating through CUDDLY and continuing to change the lives of so many. We are so honored to have you in our corner.
