Sofi

Sofi, a once majestic Shar Pei, found herself discarded in a pile of trash, her trembling form left in a box, forsaken by the one she trusted. Witnessing this scene was a gut-wrenching experience, finding her waiting, hope flickered in her eyes for her companion's return that would never come. Sofi's body bore the scars of neglect—a skeletal frame, fur stripped away, open lesions peppered her skin, and a haunting whitish veil over her eyes. Her body was a testament to the unspeakable pain she endured in silence.

A victim of exploitation, Sofi was used as a breeding machine, her puppies sold for a profit before she was callously abandoned. Despite the odds stacked against her, Sofi's indomitable spirit shone through. Urgent surgeries saved her life, tackling the life-threatening pyometra and agonizing eye condition that caused her endless discomfort. Yet, her fight was far from over. A fungal skin infection added to her burdens, lengthening the path to recovery. As Sofi took her first steps toward healing, she remained hospitalized, with mounting medical bills weighing heavily on our rescue.

Yet Sofi was making remarkable strides, and we knew we could not give up on this deserving girl. After undergoing surgery to remove her infected uterus and receiving corrective procedures on both eyelids for entropion, Sofi was already doing so much better. Her once whitish eyes showed significant improvement post-surgery, looking brighter and healthier. However, Sofi was still battling Malassezia, a fungal skin infection that required daily medicated baths. Sofi's medical bills only continued to grow, but the generosity of the CUDDLY community allowed us to continue providing Sofi with the care she needed.

By the middle of January, Sofi's battle against Malassezia had seen significant progress—her dermatitis was noticeably better, and her once-swollen face beamed with her trademark cheerfulness! Furthermore, Sofi continued to heal remarkably from both the pyometra and entropion surgeries. We were continuously amazed by Sofi's resilience. it was almost unbelievable that the dog standing before us was the same one we pulled from a pile of rubbish just a few weeks earlier.

On January 24th, the moment we had been dreaming of finally became a reality. Sofi found her forever home. Sofi was adopted by an amazing family who will shower her with love and give her the life she was always meant to have. Sofi has another Shar Pei sister, and we know the two will be fast friends. Sofi's treatment for her skin infection is still ongoing, but we know her family will do an excellent job nursing this girl the rest of the way back to health.
