After suffering in solitude for what could have been months as mites ate away at her aching skin, homeless pup Reed (FKA Aurora) was finally given the care she needed to relieve her of the constant and unbearable torment. Reed was found wandering the streets by a local man who took pity on the homeless pup and immediately brought her to a local vet.

There, she was diagnosed with Sarcoptic Mange (Scabies). Reed had been in agony for what could have been months as she endured this horrific infection. In addition to her Scabies, Reed was severely malnourished and had a bad case of fleas and ticks. She was prescribed oral and topical medication as well as medicated baths weekly.

When we heard of Reed’s case, she was in recovery mode in Mexico. We knew we could help her find her forever home here in the States, so we arranged for her to come after she felt a bit better. It didn’t take long. Under an expert vet team's dedicated care, Reed felt well enough to be transferred from Mexico to our Phoenix rescue team in late June 2023.

She and some friends were going to be driven over, and we couldn’t contain our excitement! Almost a month later, Reed finished the last pill in her flea/tick medication and was thriving in her new environment. We couldn’t get enough of her silly smile and sweet gaze and were certainly in no rush to part with this gentle soul, but we knew it was just a matter of time before someone wanted to take her home forever!

Then, we got some amazing news at the start of the new year. After many applications that didn’t seem like quite the right fit, we came across adopters Erin and Edward. We just knew this could be it. They came over and met her; it was like Reed had known them for years. Then, they brought over their fur baby, Kaaya. It went well, but we wanted to go slow, just in case! We had another meet-up, and then finally, a sleepover.

Well, the sleepover lasted four weeks. We had updates daily, and things couldn’t be better, so we finally made things official on the weekend. We couldn’t be happier and so thankful to Erin and Edward for loving our beautiful girl and giving her the most perfect, amazing home and big sister, Kaaya. Thank you to everyone involved in Reed’s Rescue Story. We couldn’t do this work without you! 💖
