Boatsman

Boatsman, named for his staggering gait, similar to that of a drunken sailor on a boat, was found in a horrific condition. His tragic story, too, is difficult to imagine. While trying to desperately escape a dog-fighting compound, which had been his horrific home for years, he was brutally struck by a truck. This incident left his paws smashed flat and caused his wobbly walk. 

Discovered shuddering alone on a bare road, Boatsman was picked up and tossed into a shelter. But he was discarded once more when the shelter ran out of room for him. When we stumbled upon the poor pup, he was seen dragging himself with his two front legs, as he still bore injuries from the hit-and-run. In addition to this, he was suffering from severe mange and was immensely malnourished. The sight just crushed our hearts, bringing us to tears. 

Boatsman’s future was looking bleak, but graciously, we took him into our loving arms in an attempt to save him. We leapt into our cars and raced him back to our rescue, where he would be properly cared for, and provided the second chance he deserved. The entire drive there, he melted into our chests. Clearly, he had never been cared for like this before and was relieved to find solace. With us, he was now safe, and he knew that. 

After being assessed by a vet, the extent of his condition was made clear. His treatment would be extensive and quite costly, and we could not do it alone. Quickly, we posted Boatsman’s heart-wrenching plight to Cuddly, where we urgently asked for help. We had no idea what the future would hold, but we held onto the hope that generous people would feel called to assist us. And wonderfully, they did! 

Within days, our plea for help was heard! We were amazed at the number of kind-hearted individuals who selflessly donated to Boatsman’s medical fund, purchasing life-changing gifts from his wish list. Thanks to everyone who donated through Cuddly, we were able to dive into Boatsman’s treatment and begin his healing journey. 

Boatsman’s mange took a long time to fully heal due to the severity of it. But by eating healthy, nourishing food, receiving proper medication, and taking appropriate supplements, all of which were donated by YOU, he was, at long last, on a glorious path to full recovery. 

Soon after he was in our care and we received ample funds, we scheduled his surgery to correct his crooked paws. While we knew that the treatment would not be easy on him, it was necessary to provide him with the healing he so desperately yearned for. Throughout the entire process, Boatsman remained happy and buoyant, his radiant personality shining through. The mask of pain he once wore was melting away, revealing the kind and gentle pup beneath.

Following the surgery, Boatsman’s health skyrocketed. He was soon able to walk and even run! He was radiantly happy, racing through the fields with a large smile imprinted on his face. It warms our hearts beyond measure to see a pup, who once was suffering so much, now enjoying life to the fullest. Because of everyone’s incredible generosity, we were able to not only save sweet Boatsman, but help him to fall in love with his life again.
