Bucky

Bucky, once a helpless and suffering cat, was found with shocking injuries and severe ailments that tinged his future with harrowing uncertainty. He was found enduring unimaginable pain, but thanks to unwavering compassion and care, Bucky's days of hardship are over. Thanks to you, he is living out his dream life!

When Bucky showed up on a stranger's front porch, desperate for help, his condition was severe. He was deeply dehydrated, with dead bone protruding from his leg. His fragile body was being consumed by maggots, lice, fleas, and ticks, a gruesome sight that left the kind woman stricken with fear. When she called animal control, she was shocked when they suggested that she simply shoot the cat to put him out of his misery. Thankfully, she refused to give up on him that easily and desperately sought help.

After calling each and every available resource she could find, she finally reached out to our rescue. Of course, we agreed to help this sweet baby, our hearts shattering at the mere thought of his ongoing suffering. In the middle of the night, we raced over and rushed sweet Bucky to an emergency clinic for lifesaving care. If we had waited a moment longer, it may have been too late for him. 

The next day, at the crack of dawn, our veterinarians conducted a thorough examination. While relieved that he tested negative for FIV and FeLV, the extent of his injuries was quite alarming. His teeth were broken, likely from trying to chew on anything to stave off hunger, and his leg was too damaged to save, necessitating amputation. He also needed to have several teeth extracted due to a severe disease that had spread.

Against all odds, Bucky survived long enough to receive the urgent care he so desperately needed. Despite everything, he began to flourish in his new surroundings, clearly never knowing love and care before now. Safe, warm, and no longer starving, he eagerly accepted pets, purred contentedly, and enjoyed regular meals. He was healing, and we couldn’t stop smiling, beyond elated for him and the grand progress he had made thus far.

Once he was well enough, Bucky had surgery for his leg amputation and neutering. He was placed on broad-spectrum antibiotics and pain medications and began adjusting to his new life with one less leg. While he still had a long way to go, he was resting comfortably and starting to recover his strength. Over time, he gained weight and his few remaining teeth, which were in end-stage dental disease, were carefully extracted.

Weeks of acclimation and care in his foster home transformed Bucky into a playful and affectionate house cat. He got along well with other cats, enjoyed 'cat TV,' and adored ear scratches. He healed beautifully following his extensive surgeries and even started to transition off his prescription diet. Though still skittish, Bucky thrived on affection and food. 

Today, Bucky is ready for adoption! His miraculous recovery just has us awestruck and amazed. We were beyond elated to care for Bucky, but we had no earthly idea that we would heal so easily and quickly. He is truly a fighter, ready for whatever life may bring him. None of this would have been possible, however, with the remarkable support we’ve received thus far, on par with the unwavering dedication of our team.
