Golden Retriever Family
Once in dire need of help and suffering in severe anguish, this family’s story is both heart-wrenching and heartwarming. It is truly a miracle that we discovered them when we did and were able to ultimately, save their lives! None of this could have been possible, however, without YOUR support!
A few weeks ago, our team discovered a severely neglected and very pregnant Golden Retriever living in heartbreaking conditions. Found in a filthy shed behind an unsafe house, she was hanging onto life by a thread. Without a moment to waste, we traveled to the scene, refusing to sit back and watch this girl suffer a moment longer.
By the time we arrived, tragedy awaited us. The mama had already lost three of her newborn puppies. She was found literally CLINGING to her deceased babies while simultaneously trying to keep the remaining ones alive. This heart-wrenching sight spurred us into immediate action, leaving us stifling back our tears. We didn’t even post some of the photos or videos we took of the scene; they were just too awful to witness.
During a harrowing middle-of-the-night operation, we managed to transport the mama and her surviving eight puppies to safety. They were hastily brought back to the States and placed under intense quarantine at our Founder’s house. Upon arrival, the mama tested positive for distemper, a disease that could easily spread to her pups. However, at that point, she was not showing any symptoms.
Initially, this family was undoubtedly traumatized. Their eyes were filled with pain and uncertainty, and they struggled to trust us. We ensured they were fed, warmed, and hydrated, helping them regain the strength they had lost throughout this ordeal. We provided nourishing, gentle care to the mama especially, as she had clearly been through SO much. Gradually, Mama began to relax, realizing she was now in a safer place. And regardless of how exhausted she was, her maternal instincts never wavered. She fiercely protected and cared for her babies, despite being utterly exhausted.
Then, this harrowing situation took a sharp turn for the worse. Two days after their arrival, an unfortunate incident occurred where the mama accidentally dislocated one of her puppy’s legs by stepping on it. Immediate medical attention was provided, and the puppy was taken for X-rays and scheduled for immediate surgery. We are relieved to report that the mama is now nurturing her babies more actively and affectionately and that the baby is recovering well!
Today, we are OVERJOYED to share that the pups are ALL thriving, and Mama has shown significant improvement. She has undergone diligent treatment and care, which has helped transform her life of despair into one of joy and contentment. The before-and-after images of her transformation are truly a testament to her resilience and the power of love and care. Our team is just so grateful that we were able to dive in and help this family when they needed us most. This transformation has left us immensely overjoyed!
