At just four weeks old, Skittles was gasping for air, teetering on the brink of life. But today, this precious puppy has fully recovered and is now enjoying life in his forever, loving home, all thanks to YOUR generous contributions! Read on to learn more about his remarkable transformation.

Skittles’ journey began in the most desperate of circumstances. At only 1lb, he was struggling to breathe and appeared to be losing the fight for his life. He was practically dying, right before our eyes. Pale and weak, he was rushed to the ER in critical condition. His health was deteriorating rapidly, and we feared the worst. But we decided, right then and there, that we would do anything and everything possible to save his fragile little life.

The first night was agonizing. His foster parent stayed by Skittles' side, afraid he wouldn’t survive until morning. Further tests revealed a severe upper respiratory infection, making each breath a struggle. But there was a glimmer of hope—his bloodwork fortunately came back normal. Although Skittles showed little interest in eating, continuous fluids, and tube feeding kept him alive.

Days passed, and Skittles began to show steady signs of improvement, his fighting spirit shining through his once-dull eyes. But just when it seemed things were turning around, he was struck by seizures, adding another layer of complexity to his fragile condition. Once again, he was rushed to the ER in Fort Worth, where he received IV fluids, antibiotics, and seizure medications. His glucose levels were carefully managed, and specialists were called in to assess his condition.

Despite the frequent hospital visits and extensive testing—including checks for a liver shunt—Skittles just kept on fighting. By late May, he was finally seizure-free, and under careful supervision, his medications were gradually reduced. Skittles had beaten the odds, showing an unbreakable will to live. We are just so proud of him and the incredible progress he has made thus far.

Recently, Skittles’ journey took a heartwarming turn. His foster parent, who had nurtured him back from the brink of death, couldn’t bear to part with him. Skittles found his forever home with the very person who had fought so hard to save him. Once a tiny puppy at death's door, Skittles has transformed into a symbol of hope, strength, and love.
