Once shackled by a massive 7-pound tumor and heartworm disease, King’s life was marked by relentless suffering and neglect. But today, his story is one of healing, hope, and the incredible power of love. Thanks to the heroic efforts of our devoted team, and donations provided by our generous community, King is now thriving in a forever home—a home he found in the most unexpected way.

King’s journey with us has been nothing short of miraculous. This sweet 5-year-old dog came to us from a partner shelter, escaping a life of severe neglect and ongoing torment. When King first arrived, it was clear he needed immediate help. He bore a massive, ulcerated tumor on his face, weighing an astonishing 7 pounds—nearly 10% of his entire body weight. Due to its sheer size, he had to drag his face along the ground just to walk or move even a little bit!

Our dedicated veterinary team wasted no time, quickly planning and executing a complex but necessary surgery to remove the huge tumor. Despite the challenges posed by the size and condition of the growth, our skilled veterinarians successfully completed the surgery. To everyone’s immense relief, further testing revealed that the tumor was not cancerous, bringing much-needed hope to King’s recovery.

Even in the face of such pain and discomfort, King’s spirit remained unbroken. Despite the clear hardship he had been through, he continued onward with an upbeat attitude and an undeniable craving for affection. He relished his donated toys, treats, and nourishing meals! His joyful energy touched everyone who met him, and we knew that he would find his forever home in no time.

But King’s battle wasn’t over yet. During his postoperative care, our veterinarians discovered that he was also suffering from heartworm disease, adding yet another challenge to his journey. King bravely endured the many treatments, and through it all, he continued to inspire us with his resilience and unwavering spirit. We were just so proud of him and the incredible progress he had made thus far!

Then came the moment that would change King’s life forever. During one of his routine leash walks, King met a construction worker at our brand-new Sjouwerman Adoption Center. The worker was instantly drawn to King, and as they continued to meet during his walks, a deep bond began to form. Their connection was undeniable, and when a tropical storm hit, this kind-hearted man decided to foster King, offering him shelter and comfort during the storm. It wasn’t long before fostering turned into adoption, and King found his forever home!

King is now thriving with his new best friend, surrounded by love and care in his new home, all thanks to a simple walk that led him to his perfect match. What an incredible story! And it could not have been possible without YOU!
