Umami

Found abandoned by the people who were supposed to love him, and unable to walk due to a disability, Umami's sad story shattered our hearts. But thanks to incredible care, compassion, and determination, this resilient kitty has undergone an extraordinary transformation. Read on to learn about how Umami’s hard life completely turned around.

Umami’s life began in unimaginable pain. Left alone to fend for himself after battling grievous injuries, he was cruelly discarded by a “family” who decided that they no longer wanted to deal with him. He struggled to use his back legs due to a permanent disability, and bore grievous wounds on his rear, likely due to being cut by a sharp object.

Every day was a fight for survival as he sat there, terribly confused as to why he was abandoned like this. Why did his family treat him so cruelly, and then cast him aside so heartlessly? He had no hope, no refuge, and no one to love him. He cried helplessly, over and over again, pleading for the loving touch of a person. We had never met an animal with such a broken heart.

Fortunately, a miracle happened.

Our rescue caught sight of this precious, injured kitty, curled up in a dirty box and bleeding from recent injuries. From the moment we saw him, we just knew we couldn’t let him continue living in this horrific way. His precious eyes glanced up at us, and our hearts swelled with a profound sadness. We acted immediately, scooping up his fragile little body and rushing him to our rescue, where he would receive the urgent care he so desperately needed.

The moment he arrived at our facility, we wasted absolutely no time. Our veterinary team worked tirelessly to treat his injuries, bandage his wounds, and manage his pain. Unfortunately, he had to have his tail amputated due to the severity of his condition, but it was necessary for him to heal. Though his body was fragile, his pathway to healing had officially begun, and we held onto the hope that it would only get better from here. Our team was determined to stand by his side, doing whatever we could to rewrite his sad story. Within weeks, his pleading eyes softened, and his physical wounds began to heal, but we knew that his journey to recovery had only just begun.

Emotionally, Umami faced an equally daunting road. He had lost trust in humans, and his heart was heavy with fear. He cried so often, far more than we've ever heard a cat cry before. But with patience, love, and constant reassurance, Umami began to blossom. He began talking to us, meowing excitedly when we were near, and his shy, yet joyful personality began to shine through. He slowly began eating more and more, regaining the strength he had lost throughout this stressful time.

Months passed, and Umami’s transformation became undeniable. He grew stronger, both physically and emotionally. His mobility improved, his confidence soared, and most importantly, he rediscovered the joy of life. He loves the attention of our team and enjoys hanging out on his scratching post. He will always have a disability, but he doesn’t let this stop him from living life to the absolute fullest. He is such a sweet boy, and we are so proud of him for making it thus far.
