We are so happy for Alma. She’s living a wonderful life, and it’s all thanks to you. Let’s take a moment to see how this beautiful story unfolded.

Alma’s story began in the most devastating way. She spent her life just trying to make it through another day, scavenging for scraps on the streets. Ever since she was a small puppy, her life had been strewn with challenges. And one day, the most horrific thing happened: a cruel person intentionally ran her over, changing her life forever.

The impact hit Alma so hard that she flew yards away, crashing against rubble and pavement. Her leg was shattered in several places, and some of her bone was badly exposed. Thank goodness, a compassionate passerby witnessed all of this unfold and rushed to help Alma. They gave us a call, and we were there within moments.

In addition to the gruesome break, Alma’s body was covered in a terrible road rash and painful lesions. She also had a massive scar around her neck, likely from being tied up by a chain. We were heartbroken for her, but there was no time to waste. We rushed her to the vet, committed to giving her the care she urgently needed. 

To our heartbreak, Alma’s leg was shattered beyond repair—an amputation was the only way to provide her with the relief she desperately needed. Additionally, an infection had already begun coursing through her bloodstream, putting her life at immediate risk. We admitted her to surgery right away.

The next few days, Alma spent time decompressing and recovering. Each day, she grew a bit stronger. However, she suddenly faced a terrifying setback. She lost muscle strength in her entire body, and within three days, she was bedridden. Alma underwent several PCR tests, X-rays, and a CT Scan in a desperate search for answers.

The culprit? The poor girl had tested positive for Neospora Caninum, a parasitic infection, and Ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease. The good news is that both of these conditions are treatable. The not-so-good news is that they had affected her neuromuscular system, contributing to her muscle loss and inability to stand. Our team treated these diseases quickly, showering her with love and comfort every step of the way.

After about two months of care, our tripod girl made remarkable progress. Before long, she was ready for adoption! And the most beautiful family swooped in, willing to give our beautiful girl a home. They didn’t care that she was missing a leg, that she had scars, that she had a troubling past. They saw her for who she truly was—an adorable, precious girl ready for her second chance at life.
