Uno

Our sweet Uno is living his best life right now, and we owe it all to you. He has a doggie sibling and a loving place to call home. He spends his days playing with toys, lounging on cozy blankets, and soaking up a wonderful puppyhood. Read on to discover how this beautiful ending came to be.

Poor Uno was brutally attacked by his own mama. The incident occurred when his previous owners mistakenly placed him near her while she was eating. Uno’s owners believed it was just a minor bite that would heal on its own. So for two days, the innocent baby went without medical attention. The injury worsened considerably. Finally, the owners brought Uno to the vet, but by then, it was too late.

A foul smell emitted from Uno’s eye. Upon closer inspection, it was found to be abscessed (filled with pus) and significantly swollen. If he wanted any chance at relief, his eye would need to be entirely removed through an enucleation surgery. He also had a large gash above his other eye, where he had been bitten. Around this time, our rescue was called—Uno’s medical needs were too great, and the owners couldn’t fund his care on their own.

We actually didn’t remove Uno’s infected eye right away. Instead, we moved forward with treatment and closely monitored both of them—the deep gash put the right eye at risk, too. We were incredibly worried that the poor baby would lose his sight entirely. Through antibiotics, pain medication, and gentle wound treatment, we did what we could to promote quick healing.

In the end, we moved forward with enucleation surgery—the infection wasn’t improving as we’d hoped, not even with strong antibiotics. We wanted to free Uno from his pain once and for all, and a complete removal was the only way. The good news, though, was that the gash was healing wonderfully and did not impair the right eye. He still had half of his vision!

Day by day, Uno grew stronger. At his check-up, the vet hardly recognized him because of how alert and energetic he was! No longer in discomfort, he was like an entirely different pup! He didn’t let his impaired vision hold him back. He embraced his challenges and navigated them with inspiring bravery. We are just so proud of him!

Not long after Uno was cleared for adoption, a friend of his foster fell head-over-heels for the sweet baby. She welcomed him home with open arms, blessing him with a new life and a wonderful family. We could almost cry—we are just so happy for this precious pup. He had such a difficult start to life, but look at him now! Happy, healthy, and finally home.
