Bruno

When initially discovered, Bruno was a shadow of his true self, emaciated and riddled with painful sores. Rescued from a difficult life of confinement, he has completely transformed into a beloved Boxer, living safely within his forever home among an adoring family. Read on to learn about his incredible story of healing and happiness.

For many years, Bruno was locked away in inhumane conditions and horribly neglected. He was found starving, with gums so swollen he couldn’t even eat properly. His eye and tail were deeply damaged, and he bore painful pressure sores on his back from prolonged sitting. His sad tale took a hopeful turn when he was rescued by our team. We promised, then and there, to never allow him to suffer so profoundly again.

Once safely within our care, we wasted no time. We gave Bruno a soothing bath and gingerly tended to his open wounds. The medical team addressed inflamed gums through antibiotics, but he would need to see a specialist to mend this complication entirely. The red spot in his way was a possible tumor disguised as a ruptured blood vessel and demanded thorough and ongoing care. In the ways that we could, careful not to cause his gums further harm, we provided Bruno with nourishing, calorically dense foods to help him regain his strength. For a moment, he seemed to be healing quite well. He even gained 10 pounds, just five shy of our initial goal!   

Then, the situation took a devastating turn when Bruno was diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis and Lyme disease, each of them tick-borne illnesses that required round-the-clock vet care and crucial medications. During this time, his mended tail wound split open, and he continuously licked at it. We put a cone on him and tended to the cut to the best of our ability. But Bruno only continued to find his way to the wounded tail. Before long, it bloomed with infection. According to the vet, the only humane option was to amputate the tail altogether. Our hearts grew heavy with this news, but we wanted to provide Bruno with the best quality of life possible. 

Once he recovered from his grueling diseases, Bruno underwent two critical surgeries. The first, under the skilled hands of an experienced specialist, addressed his swollen gums, amputated his infected tail, and neutered him. Following this, Bruno had a successful procedure to manage the mass in his eye. The specialist had previously suspected he would need a full eye removal, but we were grateful to learn that we could save it and maintain his full sight. 

Following these procedures, resilient Bruno recovered like a champ. As his health returned, so did his joyful personality, winning the hearts of those around him. Once he was fully healed, he was ready for a home where he could run and play! We are elated to share that, before long, Bruno’s dream came true! He is now residing happily with a family that absolutely loves him. He enjoys playing outside with his big brother Creasy and sister Janko (pictured). This precious Boxer has been through so much, and we are truly so happy for him and the remarkable progress he made to get to where he is today.
