Pepe

Sweet Pepe was found lying in a puddle of her blood, trembling with shock. Likely the victim of a brutal hit-and-run, she was sent flying, her life flashing before her eyes. Miraculously, we rescued her in the nick of time, ultimately saving her life. As we share this, Pepe lives happily in her forever home, playing freely and soaking up all the love!

When we first found Pepe, she couldn’t move, her seeping blood staining her fur. Her body was a kaleidoscope of agonizing wounds—we couldn’t even begin to fathom the pain she was in. Hurriedly, we scooped her up and rushed her into the careful hands of our trusted vet for urgent care. 

Pepe was quickly stabilized with pain relief, vitamin K, and a steady stream of essential medications. The medical team raced to uncover the extent of her injuries by performing X-rays and blood tests. Heartbreakingly, they discovered THREE fractures in her pelvis as well as a life-threatening blood infection.

This sweet girl was immediately placed on a treatment plan, both to ease her pain and get her on the fast track to healing. She underwent crucial surgery to mend her pelvis and was continued on medications to curb the infection. For a while, she was barely eating or drinking, still untrusting of us and wracked by fear. We felt so sorry for her and all that she had gone through and continued to shower her with all of the world's love, affection, and nourishing care. 

Over the next few months, Pepe began to graze her food and take careful laps of water. Her eyes, once clouded with fear, now glimmered with hope as she gingerly began to explore her surroundings. Was that hope we saw her in her newfound gaze? Following surgery, she was able to stand on her hind leg and tentatively walk, and weeks later, thanks to lots of patience, support, and therapy, she began to zoom about, running freely!

Pepe’s rehabilitation continued in a foster home in Pavia, Italy, where she had a better chance of finding her forever family. Constant nurturing and care transformed her into a spirited and healthy dog. In time, she was nearly unrecognizable as the pup she once was! We could hardly believe that this spirited, carefree girl was the same lifeless pup we had rescued not long ago.

The crowning moment of her journey came when a loving family opened their doors to Pepe, giving her the stable, joyful life she deserves. She enjoys long walks and zooming around with her fur sibling! Her transformation is truly remarkable, and we are honored to have been given the opportunity to change her life and bless her with a second chance.
