The chapter has finally closed on one of the most heart-wrenching yet inspiring journeys we’ve ever witnessed. Onyx, the gentle, resilient black cat from Cairo who once lay trembling in pain after a brutal attack, is home. He’s safe. He’s loved. He’s been adopted into a forever family in the USA who sees not his scars, but his heart.

But let’s go back, because what Onyx overcame deserves to be remembered…

Back in the spring of 2024, our team in Cairo received an urgent call: a passerby had found a black cat barely clinging to life. His eye was severely injured, his jaw broken, and his small body soaked in blood. He had been hit with a pipe. His meows were weak and pleading.

Thanks to the swift action of our rescue partners and the immediate support from donors around the world, Onyx underwent emergency surgery. On June 8th, 2024, his jaw was successfully repaired, allowing him to eat without pain again. His damaged eye was treated, avoiding infection and further trauma. He had a long medical shower, which revealed a sleek black coat beneath all the grime and fleas. Slowly but surely, Onyx began to heal not just physically, but emotionally. He craved cuddles, gave nose kisses to the vet techs, and purred the moment someone sat beside him. He wasn’t just recovering, he was coming back to life.

By July 1st, we had even more reason to hope: Onyx had a confirmed adopter in Baltimore, Maryland, ready to welcome him home. Preparations began for his ā€œFreedom Flightā€ scheduled for September 7th, including bloodwork, vaccines, and his travel documents. Every dollar raised helped move him closer to that dream.

And now, it’s real. Onyx is no longer a cat fighting to survive in Cairo. He is now a beloved pet, curled up in soft blankets in a warm home, purring with contentment and peace. His new family adores him. Like, seriously adores him! As they should. Look at his proper new outfit, fit for a KING! He is cherished, protected, and finally (finally!) he knows what love feels like every single day. We are crying tears of joy.

To every single person who donated through CUDDLY, shared his story, prayed, and rooted for him—you did this. You gave Onyx not just a second chance, but his very first real chance at life. There are no words big enough to capture the joy and gratitude in our hearts. Watching Onyx leave behind the pain and fear and step into a life of gentleness and love is why we do this work. Onyx is safe. Onyx is loved. Onyx is home. And we couldn’t be more thrilled, more grateful, or more completely and utterly happy. Thank you.
