Star & Lola
Two heartbreaking beginnings. One beautiful, harmonious ending. These two horses were rescued from their scheduled slaughter and lovingly adopted by the same family! We are positively thrilled for them and cannot wait to see what’s in store at their lovely new home.
Star was just ten years old and facing certain death. Since the day he was born, he had been thrust into work. A lifetime of labor left him weak and frail. Then, instead of giving him the help he clearly needed, his owners scheduled him to be slaughtered. All of that hard work, all of that pain, was for nothing. Of course, we were not going to let this happen. We scrambled to round up the funds we needed to spare his life. To give him a second chance.
Around the same time, we found out about Lola, a senior mare. Her adoring owner passed away when the horse was 22 years old, leaving her in a precarious state. The heartbreaking decision was made to send her off to be slaughtered. We rushed to save her, determined to give her a second chance. A new chapter, filled with love and joy. We knew in our hearts this couldn’t be her end—there was still so much life in her.
Acquiring the money needed to save the lives of two horses wasn’t easy. But we managed to make it happen, all thanks to the incredible generosity of our community. We rewrote their futures and transported them straight back to our sanctuary. The minute Star arrived, he feasted on our grass, clearly starving. Star and Lola were showered with loving care, and within no time, they were both healthy and happy horses!
Of course, we encountered some hurdles along the way. Poor Star fell quite ill with some lung issues. A visit to the vet confirmed that his lungs are functioning at only 60%. His challenging past left his body and soul exhausted. But thanks to intensive medical care, nourishing food, and the love of those who refused to give up on him, Star held on. From here on out, we will ensure that his life will only be kind to him, and for the rest of his years, he’ll have endless pastures to graze.
A couple of months later, a wonderful message hit our inboxes. Both Star AND Lola were being adopted—together! Throughout their time with us, they grew exceptionally close. We believe they leaned on each other and found strength through shared struggle. Their new home is a stunning, peaceful villa in the hills, not far from our sanctuary. We mean it when we say that this moment would not have been possible without the kindness and generosity of YOU.
Lola and Star are living out their dream lives right now. You did this. Yep–you! Your donation made a direct impact on their lives, sparing them from slaughter and providing them with a new beginning. We are ecstatic; it’s hard to wipe the smiles from our faces, even as we write this! We hope you know that you are truly making a difference. Thank you so much for being such a positive force in this world.
