Today, we have the most heartwarming news to share—Wilma has been adopted! This resilient sweetheart endured a heartbreaking start to life, and we feel deeply privileged to have been part of her remarkable transformation. But before we close out Wilma’s final chapter, we want to reflect on the long road that brought us here.

Wilma was found wandering the streets of Houston, Texas. A kind stranger scooped her up and brought her to a municipal shelter. Wilma’s body told a painful story that her voice couldn’t. At the time, she weighed a shocking 27 pounds. Almost all her hair was missing, leaving behind red and inflamed skin. For weeks, if not months, Wilma suffered from Demodex mange and dermatitis.  Her exposed skin had thickened like armor, and she scratched constantly, unable to escape the torment of her own body.

It wasn’t long before Wilma was scheduled for euthanasia. The instant our team saw her photos in the shelter’s plea for rescue assistance, we knew we had to intervene. Our team rescued Wilma from the shelter just before her scheduled euthanasia, and we brought her straight to the vet clinic. There, the medical team administered medications to kill the mites and protect Wilma’s fragile skin from further infection. It was the first step on a long road to healing.

Slowly, day by day, Wilma began to transform. Her fur started growing back in soft patches. A glossy black coat replaced her inflamed skin. Her spirit was shining brighter than ever. Thanks to the tireless care of our volunteers and her devoted foster mom, Wilma blossomed into a joyful, tail-wagging beauty. After a few months, she looked like a completely different dog—and we could tell she felt like one too.

Wilma’s foster mom, unable to imagine life without this fuzzy sweetheart, made it official—Wilma is home for good! Wilma now spends her days wiggling with joy whenever she meets new friends, indulging in her favorite chicken treats, going on fun car rides, snuggling up with her family, and sneakily bringing sticks inside the house.

Thanks to the CUDDLY community and your donations, Wilma is living the life she’s always deserved. It has been incredible to witness her transformation.
