Scooby
We have some wonderful news to share with you. Scooby, the poor, matted boy who was found locked in a kennel void of a light source, has found his forever home! The journey wasn’t easy. But we couldn’t be happier for him and his beautiful life ahead. Sit back as we share his remarkable journey.
For most of his life, if not the entirety of it, Scooby lived out his days in the most devastating way. Kept chained up in a small enclosure, he never saw the sun. His fur grew and grew and twisted and tangled into painful, heavy mats. Years of urine and feces clung to it.
It wasn’t until a concerned neighbor mustered the courage to reach out to us that we became aware of Scooby—they captured the blatant abuse on video. When we tried to rescue Scooby from his owner (yes, we struggle to comprehend that he had an owner as well), she initially refused. She claimed that he was chained up because he was aggressive, which was a lie. Anyone could see that, beneath the trauma, Scooby was the sweetest, most gentle boy. We had to involve the police, who confiscated the ailing pup and brought the woman to the police station.
We hurried Scooby to our clinic for immediate care. Large flies flew out from between his mats—maggots were feasting on his wounds. His condition was so severe that he had to be sedated for grooming. Beneath his fur, the horrors continued: pustules (pus-filled bumps) covered his skin, as did painful, infected pressure sores from prolonged confinement.
It was a condition unlike anything we’d ever seen… we hate even to be writing about it now. We are so sad that he endured so much pain for so, terribly long. But we made a vow to help him overcome this. We vowed to stand by him every step of the way, regardless of how challenging the venture would be. And we've made sure that he'd never endure pain like this again.
Poor Scooby was also battling Lyme disease, severe anemia, and malnourishment. After he was groomed, his wounds were tended to, and the maggots were flushed, we fed Scooby nourishing wet food and healthy supplements. Later on, he received an ultrasound, medications for his Lyme disease, and a blood transfusion. At long last, he underwent the medical treatment he had needed for years.
As days went on, Scooby began to transform. His health was improving, and without the mats, he was feeling much more comfortable. Then the marvelous day came when he found his forever home! An animal activist involved with Scooby’s case formed a deep bond with him throughout his hospitalization. She realized she couldn’t let him go, and so she welcomed him in.
We can hardly contain our excitement for Scooby! He has been through so much, yet now here he is—loved, cherished, and forever safe. From here on out, he will only know kindness and peace. Thanks to YOU, and your donations through CUDDLY, he is living out his dream life. We are so, incredibly grateful, and we know that he is, too.
Have a beautiful life, Scooby. We love you so much, forever and always.
