Alfie

After making a full recovery, Alfie found the most amazing family! He is soaking up his dream life, surrounded by constant love and affection. We couldn’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done, for giving Alfie a chance. Read on to discover how this wonderful transformation came to be!

Alfie arrived at our rescue with a concerning lump on his behind. Our team was fairly certain it wasn’t cancerous or posed any cause for concern, but we brought him to the vet just in case. We’re so glad that we did.

As it turns out, Alfie was battling a Perineal Hernia. This occurs when there is a weakening or traumatic tear in the muscles, allowing organs to push through to the outside. We were shocked. Alfie had been neutered very recently, but his small intestine had already wrapped into the hernia.

If his condition wasn’t repaired soon, Alfie’s stomach could twist. There was also a terrifying possibility that his colon and bladder could get wrapped in as well. Alfie’s entire bloodstream could be compromised. We acted fast, scheduling an immediate surgery consultation. Fortunately, we were able to find a time later that same week.

Our sweet boy endured the surgery like a champ. He transitioned smoothly into the healing phase, enjoying this relief! His recovery period lasted about two weeks, during which he received antibiotics as a precaution, pain medication, and a stool softener to prevent strain on his healing body.

This period presented some minor challenges. Post-naps, Alfie exhibited some stiffness. While it eased after a few minutes of him stretching, it still left us concerned. We added a joint supplement to his regimen, and that helped a ton!

Before we knew it, Alfie had healed completely! The hernia was gone! His tight muscles relaxed. He went from being tired and in discomfort to spirited and ready to seize the day. We are so proud of his resilience—he never gave up. And with you in our corner, we got him the help he needed.

Then, something beautiful happened: Alfie was adopted! A loving family took one look at him and knew he was meant to become a member of their family. He is there with them now, spending his days running around, snuggling close, and being a good, happy boy.
