Cordelia

Our beautiful Cordelia is living it up in her forever home, and we couldn’t be happier for her! Her transformation is just incredible. Despite her challenging past, she is the sweetest kitty and is so trusting of humans. Let’s take a moment to reflect on her incredible whirlwind of a journey.

If you recall, Cordelia was found meandering near a local pet food pantry, clearly in pain. Something was wrapped tightly around her throat, impacting her ability to walk comfortably. A kind woman had tried to catch Cordelia for months, but the frightened girl kept darting away. Not knowing what else to do, she contacted SOCKS (Save Our Cats And Kittens), hoping we could help.

We offered the woman a trap to secure the kitty safely. Once she did, we headed over to take a look. Cordelia certainly had something wrapped around her throat–an embedded collar that dug into her flesh, creating a deep, festering wound. The smell of infection hit us immediately, and our hearts broke at the sight of her suffering. We rushed her to the vet, eager to give Cordelia the healing care she needed.

Cordelia was not microchipped, though the presence of a collar led us to believe she once had a home. We don’t know how she ended up out there, but the possibilities are difficult to imagine. The collar, which had been put there a long time ago, pressed painfully into her chest and armpit and had to be delicately and carefully removed. The medical team offered Cordelia pain relief and antibiotics and, because of the unique placement of the wound, stitched the bandage to her skin. They dressed her in a recovery suit to protect the area and fed her yummy food to bolster her strength.

Day by day, Cordelia continued to heal. At our rescue, we regularly applied a healing, silver sulfate cream to the wound and kept a watchful eye on it. Her lovely personality began to emerge as she contentedly kneaded biscuits (that adorable cat habit of making ‘dough’ with their paws) and nuzzled into us for warmth.

A little more than a month later, something amazing happened—Cordelia was adopted! Her new mama fell absolutely in love with our sweet girl and offered her a safe, loving home. Cordelia’s patient, caring owner, has no problem with carrying out the treatment by applying the cream. The kitty is still not fully healed, but she’s nearing the end. The finish line is in sight!
