Clyde

Sweet Clyde, we are so happy for you. My goodness, what a wonderful transformation! This lovable Boxer you see here once had a deeply challenging life. We’re not even sure if we want to tell you for fear that it will absolutely break your heart. But the good news is that he’s safe now. He’s healed. And he’s living out the happily ever after he’s always deserved.

Clyde was found limping through the streets with an injured leg tucked into his chest. It was just a few days before a frigid winter storm struck Houston, and he was searching for help, a bite to eat, a place to rest his aching body. But instead, he was treated with cruelty. Neighbors admitted to shooting at him with BB guns, and a bullet tore through his leg. He was broken, starving, and had nowhere to go.

When someone finally notified us about this hurting soul, we raced to the rescue. We arrived just in time; he was fading fast. As we loaded him up into the car, he melted into us, shaking. From the cold or the fear… we have no idea. But he was exhausted and in so much pain—that much was clear.

At the vet, Clyde underwent emergency surgery to mend his leg. Over the next few days, he began to regain strength and confidence. He was fed nourishing food and administered pain relief, antibiotics, and more to support his body. Sadly, he was heartworm-positive, so we quickly initiated treatment. Then, another heartbreaking hurdle crossed our path.

Although it appeared that Clyde's leg could be repaired with surgery, that was no longer the case. After consulting with the surgeon further, we made the ultimate decision to amputate Clyde’s leg. While this was not the outcome any of us wanted, this procedure would help give Clyde the absolute best chance at a pain-free life. Our next mission? Helping our sweet boy learn how to navigate life as a tripod.

Despite everything he had gone through, Clyde was the sweetest boy. His spirit remained unbreakable—it was as though he knew that a beautiful new beginning was right around the corner. He stayed under our care for some time, improving by the day. He continued visiting the vet for routine checkups on the amputation site, and his heartworm was healed. His beautiful spirit began shining through, and he walked on three legs with grace, patience, and determination. Clyde’s resilience is truly inspiring.

Months later, Clyde’s journey came to a beautiful end: he was adopted! He’s now living his best life with a loving family in New York—the same family who previously adopted one of our other rescues, Annie. We've attached a beautiful photo of Clyde and his new sister; both of them came from devastating backgrounds, and now they get to grow together and relish endless snuggles! Wow. We feel like crying! We couldn’t ask for a better ending. We’re so happy for you, sweet boy.

Thank you so much to everyone at CUDDLY. Your donations, your kindness, made this beautiful story possible. You helped give Clyde a chance by funding his critical care, giving him comforting meals and toys, and opening the door to his extraordinary life. We hope you know just how much of an impact you’re making for animals in need. We truly could not have done this without you!
