Because of you, Birdie is home. After traveling thousands of miles and undergoing much-needed veterinary care, she's soaking up her extraordinary life, filled with endless love, comfort, and support. Let’s take a moment to see how this incredible story unfolded. 

Our sweet Birdie was found in the aftermath of a heartbreaking domestic situation. A “throw-away” mom, she was abandoned in rural Texas after birthing countless litters. She had been treated this way for years, thrown out when she was no longer wanted. Her body was tired and weak, and her heart was broken. No life should ever be treated this way. Just thinking about Birdie’s hardship brings tears to our eyes.

When our team found Birdie, she was thin, suffering from a cold, and her mammary tissue was swollen and infected from neglect. She was scared, broken, and unsure of what the future held. Gently, we coaxed her toward us, determined to give her the care she deeply deserved.

Once safely with us, we wrapped Birdie in warm blankets and gave her some time to decompress. She enjoyed the quiet moments, the soft voices reminding her that she was safe. We gave her some medication to combat her cold and antibiotics to curb her infection. She was improving, but she still had a long way to go.

Next up was an eight-hour transport to our newest rescue, where a foster home was waiting for her. Once she was feeling well enough, we safely loaded her up and headed on our way. But what’s a rescue story without its bumps in the road? Literally.

Two hours in, the van ran over some debris that popped a tire. The transport mission was put on hold until we could take it into the shop to get it replaced. This was an unexpected cost for all of us, and of course, we hadn’t planned on the journey being so long. We began to grow anxious, hoping Birdie could stay strong until we arrived at our destination. Eventually, the van was fixed up, and we journeyed onward.

The moment we arrived, Birdie was awarded a scrumptious pup cup! She settled into her foster home with ease. But soon after, her foster noticed a concerning lump on her abdomen. We brought her to the vet, where she received her necessary vaccinations and had the lump thoroughly assessed. We also obtained a health certificate for Birdie to travel, as she’d be embarking on yet another journey in just a few weeks. This time, to a long-term foster home up north.

Until then, we continued showering Birdie with much-needed medical care and all the TLC we could muster. She grew stronger every day, showcasing the happy, gentle girl she had always been deep inside. Our beautiful girl was transforming right before our eyes, and we couldn’t wait to witness her next chapter.

Birdie traveled from the southern tip of Texas, near the Mexico border, to Pennsylvania. The journey spanned thousands of miles, and she was the most wonderful passenger princess! It was as though she knew that her second chance was right around the corner. She was right; quite soon after her arrival, she was lovingly adopted by the most incredible family!

The family fell in love with Birdie’s story and wanted to give her a life filled with kindness and stability. Today, Birdie is thriving in her forever home. She has her own cozy bed, a yard to explore without fear, and a family who adores her. They even gave her a hat for winter! She’ll never have to wonder where her next meal is coming from or whether she’s loved—she knows she is.
