We truly could not be happier for our beloved Zorro. After everything he has gone through, and the weeks spent fighting for his life, he deserved nothing more than a loving home. And then he found one. Zorro is now a best friend, a hiking buddy, and a loyal member of an amazing family.

Zorro’s past is devastating. It’s difficult to hear, even now, when we know that he is safe. He was found on the streets with a bashed-in face, likely the result of blunt-force trauma. The impact fractured his skull and claimed the vision in one of his eyes. We suspect the weapon of choice was a baseball bat, smacked against his head on purpose. We don’t know if a previous owner did this to him or if Zorro was lost and stumbled into the path of a cruel individual. We fear we may never know.

When we brought Zorro to the vet, the horrors continued. The medical team discovered bruising around Zorro’s genitals, along with a circular wound, suggesting someone tried to castrate him at home instead of taking him to a medical expert for a proper neuter procedure. And yet, despite everything, Zorro is the gentlest boy. He is great with other dogs, trusting of people, and incredibly sweet. He truly has a golden spirit.

The next few weeks were a whirlwind. Due to the severity of Zorro’s trauma, he experienced seizures almost daily. He was put on anti-seizure medication to keep them under control, and things seemed like they were improving—he went almost a full day with no seizure. Then, later that evening, he experienced a terrifying cluster of them. We rushed him to the E.R., choking back our sobs; we were so scared we were about to lose him.

The vet dove into action and switched Zorro to injectable medication in hopes of gaining better control. Later, additional medication was administered in an attempt to stabilize him. And if the neurologist found anything concerning, the next step would be an MRI.

To our absolute relief, Zorro responded well to the injections. He wagged his tail as we petted him, which told us that he felt safe. Things were looking up. Gradually, he began to display more energy, and the seizures vanished. Throughout the weeks, he was kept on a low dosage of anti-seizure medication, and additional bloodwork was taken and sent off to determine whether more diagnostics were needed. But in the meantime, we kept a close eye on him, allowing him to heal at his own pace.

A month later, Zorro’s world transformed. He bounced back with extraordinary resilience and was later adopted by the most amazing, outdoorsy family. Zorro now has three friendly dog siblings that he gets to snuggle and play with. Already, he’s been hitting the trails, soaking up the sun, and living the life he’s always deserved. Just look how happy he looks in his pictures!

From knocking on death’s door to exploring the great wide outdoors, Zorro’s story is nothing short of incredible. We hardly recognize him as the same pup we rescued earlier this year. We couldn’t have done this without you; thanks to YOUR incredible kindness and generosity, we were able to raise an unbelievable $5,920 toward his medical care and give him a fighting chance.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. You saved Zorro’s life, and we’ll never forget it. And to Zorro: We hope you have a wonderful life, sweet boy. ❤️
