Toquinho

We can hardly believe we are writing this. Our beloved Toquinho has both miraculously healed from the car accident and been brought into the loveliest family! He’s been through so much, and now, he’s finally home. We could not be happier for this precious boy. Let’s take a look at how this all came to be!

Toquinho's life changed in an instant. A speeding car slammed into his fragile body, sending him flying. His body painfully swelled almost immediately, hinting at potential trauma. A kind passerby witnessed everything unfold and rushed to intervene. In a desperate attempt to relieve the swelling, they jammed a stainless steel straw into Toquinho’s side to expel the accumulating fluid. While this wasn’t a proper medical procedure by any means, it provided temporary relief from the pressure.

After we received the call, we rushed to the scene to bring Toquinho into our care. We had no idea what was in store, but we were determined to give this sweet boy the healing he desperately needed. Once safely with us, we administered pain relief, antibiotics, and fed him nourishing food to bolster his strength.

 Surgery to close the wound was promptly scheduled—while we waited, we showered him with endless tender-loving-care. He had likely never known kindness until now. Even so, he was so gentle and kind.

Toquinho underwent the procedure like a champ. For the next few days, he remained hospitalized as the medical team kept a watchful eye over him. Once he was feeling a bit better, he was neutered, dewormed, and vaccinated. And soon enough, right before our eyes, he was ready for his forever home! We could hardly recognize him as the dog we had rescued from the streets weeks earlier.

The mission changed from healing Toquinho to finding him a loving family. After all of the challenges he had been through, he deserved a warm bed, endless cuddles, and a safe place to call home.

We brought him to countless adoption events. We’re not going to lie… as families walked right past him, we started to lose hope. But we trusted that there was a perfect family out there, willing to take a chance on a pup like him. And we were right—the most wonderful people came along and instantly fell in love with his charming, joyful self.

Toquinho is now living his dream life, being spoiled rotten by his loving owners! The mere thought brings tears to our eyes. We are so grateful to everyone who donated, who stood by Toquinho’s side, and didn’t give up on him. Your generosity made this beautiful story happen. Your kindness made this possible. For that, we are so grateful.
