Claudia
We have the best news: the most wonderful family has adopted Claudia! We can hardly wipe the silly smiles from our faces. When the adoption application hit our inboxes, we leapt for joy and danced around the room. After everything she had been through, she’s now soaking up an amazing life, and we couldn’t be happier for her.
Sadly, for Claudia, her life wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows.
When we first laid eyes on this sweet girl, she was barely holding on. Pyometra, a serious uterine infection that had gone untreated for far too long, was threatening her life. She was starving, anemic, and blind. Someone had abandoned her on the streets and left her to fend for herself in this deplorable state. We will never understand how people can be so cruel.
Our team scooped her up and rushed her to the hospital. There, Claudia’s suffering was further unveiled. One of her eyes homed an ulcer, and the other had been pierced. She battled a ruptured ligament, her teeth were in terrible shape, and painful lesions, possibly burns, stretched across her raw skin. How did things get so bad?
That first day, we spent a lot of time stifling back our sobs. Beneath all of the pain, Claudia was the absolute sweetest. She nestled into us for warmth and gingerly licked our chins. She still trusted humans, and she yearned for affection. Somewhere deep inside, the joyful girl bounded inside, ready to be free from this pain.
Our team dove into action. Claudia visited with an ophthalmologist and an orthopedic specialist and underwent X-rays to curate a treatment plan. She needed urgent surgery to repair her leg and mend the pyometra, but first, we needed to heal her ailing liver.
Once she was well enough, Claudia underwent a procedure to curb the life-threatening infection. Her life was spared, but she still had a long way to go. As we prepared for her next surgery, we tended to all of her many additional needs. We treated her irritated skin, her injured eyes, bad teeth, and administered a steady stream of pain relief, antibiotics, and essential medications to bolster her strength. She was given nourishing, hearty meals and hydrating IV fluids to support her ongoing recovery.
Day by day, her once-tense body began to ease. Claudia gained healthy weight, and a shiny coat began growing in. She still had to limp due to her injured leg, but she transformed into an entirely different pup! She was becoming more herself, learning how to love life again.
Then, something amazing happened—a kind family inquired about adopting Claudia! After speaking with them, something just clicked; we couldn’t think of a better fit for our sweet girl. She’s with them now, enjoying restful snuggles and endless kisses. Her leg surgery is scheduled about a month away, and during this period, she’ll return to our care. But then she’ll go home to them, where she will always belong and forever be safe.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This beautiful ending wouldn’t have been possible without your kindness. Because of you, we’ve been able to give Claudia the medical care she needed to bounce back from her devastating past and begin anew. We couldn’t be more grateful for your support.
We are so happy for you, Claudia. Enjoy this wonderful new life, sweetheart!
