We’re writing to you with silly, ecstatic smiles on our faces. We’re still trying to wrap our heads around the miracles that have ensued. In the beginning, Zeus’ life was one of unimaginable horror, and now, he’s living the dream! Let’s take a look at the exhausting yet remarkable story that brought him to where he is today.

The poor Cocker Spaniel was left chained up outside, day after day, regardless of the weather. He endured the sweltering heat, the blistering cold, and the harsh winds with no relief or semblance of kindness in sight. Zeus’ owner ignored his pleas for months. We don’t understand how anyone could be so cruel.

Over time, Zeus’ health faded. It began with a cloud in the center of his left eye. The white orb grew until it covered the entirety of Zeus’ eye—the eye had died. Then, the terrifying day came when Zeus’ eye painfully burst! The pain he felt was unimaginable. The owner, disgusted rather than concerned, untied Zeus from his post. The starving, weak dog stumbled away, whimpering pitifully. The owner turned around and went back inside, deliberately abandoning him.

It wasn’t until a kind woman witnessed this struggling Cocker Spaniel and rushed to intervene. She called our rescue, and we agreed to help immediately. Before this, Zeus had never known an ounce of support; it was time to change that.

We rushed Zeus to an emergency animal hospital, where vets dove into action. They surgically removed the remnants of his infected eye and patched up the hole that had formed. Tests revealed that he was packed full of worms, so treatment began for that. The poor boy was starving, dehydrated, and barely clinging to life—this would not be easy.

For the first few days, the primary focus was on administering much-needed pain relief and antibiotics, supportive medications, hydrating IV fluids, and providing Zeus with nourishing food to bolster his strength. His eye underwent daily cleanings to keep the area clean, and we worked hard to eradicate the worms as fast as possible. But, understandably, he was pretty weak. He spent much of the time decompressing and learning, carefully, that he was now safe. And that he always would be.

In the beginning, we were worried about his progress. But as time went on, Zeus was visibly feeling much better. He was up and moving around, and even willingly ate some food on his own. We brought him outside to soak up some sunshine—something he was too frail to do at first.

To our relief, X-rays and an ultrasound showed that Zeus was free from worms! The treatment had worked. But the most exciting news: Zeus would be getting a prosthetic eye! This would significantly improve his overall well-being throughout his healing journey.

Things only went up from there. Zeus’ progress became evident: his skin looked healthier, his mood improved, and his energy became unstoppable. He was no longer just fighting to live, but showing up each day ready for whatever was to come. His true self, buried deep down, emerged. We had the beautiful pleasure of meeting the real Zeus—a bubbly, bright, joyful pup!

Months later, something amazing happened. A loving family chose to bring Zeus home. Jenny and Diego joined our team as volunteers and left with a new, furry family member. The moment they met Zeus, they knew he belonged with them. Since that day, Zeus has been surrounded by peace and love. Jenny and Diego saw past his scars and differences and knew he would be the most wonderful companion. We are over the moon excited that Zeus has found the most wonderful home.

This was made possible thanks to each and every one of you. You didn’t give up on Zeus, not even when he was struggling. Not even when the situation seemed gravely uncertain. You stood by his side every step of the way, cheering him on and proving to him that he wasn’t alone in this. Not even for a moment.

Your donations made Zeus’ medical care possible and supported him greatly throughout his healing journey. We couldn’t be more grateful for your kindness, and we are honored to have someone like you in our corner. Thank you for everything you’ve done for animals in need, especially Zeus.
