Mochi

First, we want to say thank you for taking a chance on Mochi. Your compassion did not go unnoticed, and your support has given this once-struggling girl an opportunity at a new life. What you’re about to read is a result of your gracious heart.

Mochi’s story began in the most devastating way. One of our volunteers arrived at our rescue to find a carrier tucked between some bushes. From within, a desperate, broken cry was emitted. The volunteer rushed over and, to their dismay and absolute horror, they locked eyes with a struggling French Bulldog.

Hurriedly, they brought Mochi inside. The foul smell that emitted from the carrier was apparent right away. Our team withdrew her carefully, and she was so frail in our hands. Almost every bone in Mochi’s body was visible; she was rail-thin and barely holding on.

We raced Mochi to the hospital, where doctors ran a complete checkup and multiple X-rays. It was there that we discovered Mochi had hookworm anemia and was severely dehydrated. She also has a crooked spine, likely due to poor breeding practices.

Fortunately, we found Mochi a safe and loving foster home, where she could rest and focus on healing. Our priority was on administering hydrating IV fluids, critical medications, and supportive, high-calorie food to provide Mochi the strength she needed to fight this. Her journey wouldn’t be easy, but we didn’t care. Not one bit. Mochi was safe with us, and that’s all that mattered.

It’s likely that before now, she hadn’t known a lick of kindness or support. She had been dumped, cruelly so—before this, she was treated with such disregard. How do people like this exist? We had to fight back the tears as these thoughts arose. We had to focus on healing Mochi because, after everything, she deserved that. She was safe now, and she always would be. 

Over time, Mochi gained healthy weight and overcame the hookworm infection and the anemia. She was no longer slipping away but showing up to life, each day, with a new zest for life. She was visibly stronger and feeling more comfortable in her skin. The treatment was working; our sweet angel was going to overcome this!

When the call came, we were ecstatic. Mochi’s foster couldn’t bear to part with the darling girl and decided to adopt her. Mochi would get to stay in the loving home she had been in throughout her recovery, meaning she wouldn’t have to undergo any change. This would be amazing for her gentle spirit. Also, her foster knew how to care for Mochi, since she had been there since the beginning. This truly is a wonderful turn of events.

We are so happy that sweet Mochi and her adoring foster found each other! They are an amazing duo, and we can’t wait for them to enjoy life together. Thank you, so much, for being so generous and taking a chance on Mochi. She’s living the dream life now!
