Oreo

Drumroll please… Oreo has been ADOPTED! You played a part in this beautiful ending, and we couldn’t be more grateful for your support throughout all of this. That being said, as many of you know, Oreo’s story didn’t begin so sweetly.

In 2022, Oreo was adopted from the country shelter. This was supposed to mark a happy ending for him. But two years later, he was returned in a horrific condition. The gentle Staffie mix was starving, terrified, and battling an infection that contributed to fur loss.

Someone had clearly neglected Oreo, then chose to give him up when he was no longer wanted. He wasn’t protected like he should have been. Instead of experiencing the loving future he was promised, he found himself back at the same shelter. This time, awaiting a grim and heartbreaking end.

Compassionate rescuers at SunnySide Street Dogs pulled Oreo the day before he was scheduled to be euthanized. They couldn’t let him die. Not after everything he had already been through.

Rescuers brought Oreo to the vet, where his journey to recovery began. Vets administered gentle care, providing the sweet boy with antibiotics and supportive supplements to help him regain his strength. He was given hearty meals, hydrating fluids, and ongoing support. 

Oreo had already been neutered, he was heartworm negative, and FULL of love. Even after the trauma he faced, he was such a bundle of joy. Rescuers fell in love with Oreo’s kind and affectionate nature; everyone did! 

Just as his healing journey was beginning, something amazing happened: a loving family stepped forward, eager to bring Oreo home. A kind family, with gracious hearts, who would always and forever keep Oreo safe. They would follow out his treatment plan, providing him with a safe and quiet place to rest.

The family, notorious supporters of SunnySide Street Rescue, lives up in New York with a large property that backs up to a gorgeous waterfall. They routinely go hiking with their two other rescue pups, both of which were previously adopted from SunnySide Street Dogs! Their names are Annie and Clyde, who you may recognize from their previous campaigns! (We included a photo of them together.)

Oreo has settled into his new home with ease. The precious boy couldn’t have ended up in a better place. He spends his days snuggling close with his new siblings, running freely outside, and soaking up the love he has always deserved. He's going stronger every day, and soon enough, he'll be back to his spirited, adventurous self!
