Hashbrown

Hashbrown (formerly named Tater) has been lovingly ADOPTED! This sweet boy was one of many cats rescued from a devastating hoarding case. Now, he’s soaking up the love in her forever home. We couldn’t be happier for her!

The home Hashbrown had been living in was horrific. How had he survived so long? Trash and debris were strewn about the floors, with filth caked into corners. Litter boxes were overflowing with urine and feces, and there was no food in sight. Rescuers couldn’t imagine the sheer quantity of fleas leaping and bounding between cats. Everything about this situation was devastating.

The cats were carefully captured, though it was challenging because they were understandably afraid. They scurried into corners, trembling if we stepped too close. But after a few hours of diligent work, rescuers were able to hurry them out of there and back to their rescue, where they would be safe. Nourishing meals, clean litter boxes, warm beds, and toys awaited them.

After a few days, all of the cats settled in nicely. Being ripped from the only home you know is never easy, but they were visibly feeling more comfortable. It was as though they understood that they were finally safe. They underwent treatment for their fleas, and tests were performed to rule out any underlying issues. Day by day, things were looking hopeful.

But for one of the kitties,  the challenges were only just beginning.

Hashbrown meandered through his kennel with an evident limp. He had begun displaying signs of a luxating patella (slipping of the kneecap) and, wracked with worry, rescuers brought him to the vet. This painful condition was confirmed. However, Hashbrown was still too young—he’d need to wait for his growth plates to close before corrective surgery.

A little over one month ago, X-rays brought good news: his growth plates had closed, and he was officially ready for the procedure! Hashbrown, at long last, underwent the surgery he desperately needed. Two weeks post-op, he was healing fantastically! He still had a couple of laser treatments ahead of him, but all things considered, everyone was blown away by the progress he had made.

When the adoption application hit their inboxes, the team at All But Furgotten leapt for joy. Despite his troubling past, Hashbrown was as sweet as could be. And someone recognized that, eager to bring the sweet kitty home. He had endured so much, and now the time had finally come for him to begin again—truly and fully.

Never again will Hashbrown be subjected to so much horror. From here on out, he will be safe and so, wholly loved. He’s surrounded by a family who cares for him, and the condition that held him back is far in the past. He’s moving forward, with each new day a wondrous blessing.
