Popeye’s story began with unimaginable neglect. He was dumped in a condition so severe that rescuers weren’t sure if he would survive. His teeth were shattered, likely from gnawing on a metal chain in a desperate attempt to free himself. On top of starvation, Popeye faced kidney failure from dehydration, an intestinal obstruction, and elevated liver enzymes. His chances of survival were heartbreakingly slim.

For a time, things looked hopeless. Though he briefly gained a few pounds, Popeye’s body quickly wasted away again, leaving him weaker than ever. Rescuers rushed him into round-the-clock veterinary care, where he received IV hydration, monitoring for his intestinal blockage, and treatment for his broken teeth. Every day felt like a race against time, and his medical bills continued to climb.

That’s when the CUDDLY community showed up for him. Because of you, Popeye’s story took a remarkable turn. After months of critical care, his blood levels stabilized. Slowly but surely, he began to gain the weight his fragile body needed to survive. Today, he is not only alive—he’s thriving, finally getting the second chance at life he always deserved.
