Riona
We have the most wonderful news to share to day. Riona, our warrior princess and beloved alum of Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, has officially found her forever home!
On June 20th, almost exactly a year after the horrific injuries she endured, Riona was adopted. Today, she thrives with two doggie sisters in a beautiful fenced yard, far from the streets of Memphis where her nightmare began. Her new family adores her, and she couldn’t be happier.
Riona’s story is one of unimaginable cruelty and incredible resilience. In June 2022, she was doused with diesel fuel and set on fire by her owner. Miraculously, she escaped the flames, running down the street as neighbors rushed to extinguish her burning body. She arrived at Bluff City Veterinary Specialists in Memphis with fourth-degree burns covering 60% of her body, singed fur, and lacerations around her neck from being tied with a cord. Her past also showed signs of long-term abuse, but even in the face of excruciating pain, Riona wagged her tail, ate and drank normally, and showed her unbreakable spirit.
Riona’s medical journey was long and arduous. She was sedated, shaved, bathed, and bandaged repeatedly for months to prevent infection, with total bills surpassing, according to a credible news source, $92,000. Thanks to the dedicated care of veterinarians and the love of her foster family, Riona was medically cleared by December 2022.
Beyond healing, Riona became a symbol of hope and resilience. She has served as an ambassador for Tails of Hope, attending events from Santa photos to Valentine’s Day fundraising booths, inspiring thousands to support animals in need. Her story has reached millions online, rallying communities to stand against animal cruelty.
Now, Riona’s days are filled with joy, safety, and love. She is proof of the transformative power of care, patience, and unwavering hope. Happy Tails like hers remind us why we do this work every day, and how much there is to celebrate.
