Hopscotch

Today, we get to share the kind of ending we once could have only hoped for. Our brave little Hopscotch, the kitten who hung from a fence for three unimaginable days, is HOME. Against every odd stacked against her, Hopscotch survived. And now, she is exactly where she was always meant to be. Her journey to this moment was nothing short of extraordinary.

When we first learned about Hopscotch,  her story shattered our hearts into a million pieces. For 72 hours, her leg was impaled by the sharp edge of a fence, the metal slowly tearing through her flesh and exposing her bone. The sounds of the city roared around her, drowning out her desperate cries for help. By the time a kind stranger discovered her and rushed her to the shelter, it was almost too late. With no vet on staff, the shelter gave her an end-of-day euthanasia deadline and contacted our rescue for support. If we didn’t step in ASAP, Hopscotch’s story would end there.

Our team partnered with CUDDLY to create an urgent fundraising campaign for Hopscotch’s shelter pull and medical care. Because of YOUR immediate support, we were able to say yes. We saved Hopscotch from the shelter and rushed her into surgery right away. The damage to her leg was too severe to repair. Amputation was the only option. Hopscotch went under anesthesia in agony and woke up a proud, pain-free tripod—finally comfortable for the first time in days. She required a strict quarantine during recovery to address her ringworm, and while her body was healing beautifully, her spirit was lonely.

Recovery and isolation weighed heavily on this social, playful kitten. We watched her grow bored and withdrawn, and it broke us. So we made a bold choice—we introduced her to another ringworm-positive kitten, Pugsley. Despite contracting different strains (because of course they did!), the risk of ringworm “double trouble” felt smaller than the risk of Hopscotch’s broken spirit. And we were right. Almost instantly, Hopscotch came back to life.

Soon, Hopscotch was healed. She spent her days hopping and playing alongside a new best friend—another rescue kitten named Bernice. Their bond was undeniable. When two potential adopters learned Hopscotch’s story and discovered she had a bonded companion, they didn’t hesitate to open their hearts and their home to both kittens. And just like that, a new family was formed.

Hopscotch’s life was once hours away from ending. Now, her days are filled with companionship and love. Thanks to the support of this CUDDLY community, kindness carried Hopscotch from a fence, to a surgery table, to a forever home. YOU helped rewrite Hopscotch’s story from one of tragedy to one of triumph. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in her. Welcome home, Hopscotch!
