When we first shared Marcello’s story, it was one of the most heartbreaking rescues we had ever faced. He had been run over by a train and was found lying beside the tracks, shaking, crying, and barely holding on. His leg was left with exposed bone. His ear was torn and bleeding. There was fear of head trauma, internal fractures, and neurological damage. He was malnourished, dehydrated, covered in ticks and fleas, and far too weak for a dog who had just endured such catastrophic trauma. 

He arrived in unbearable pain and had to be sedated immediately so our veterinary team could even begin to clean and assess his wounds. In those first hours, survival was not guaranteed. He was fragile in every possible way. 

Then, on December 9th, we were finally able to share a small but powerful piece of hope: Marcello would not need an amputation. Despite the severity of the injury and the exposed bone, our veterinarians believed his paw could be saved with aggressive treatment. It meant long-term hospitalization, intensive wound management, antibiotics, pain control, constant monitoring, and an incredibly delicate recovery process. But it also meant hope. 

And Marcello fought. He fought through every bandage change, every procedure, every painful step toward healing. He fought to get through this because of the care he was receiving. And he received that care because of you. 

On January 27th, the words we once barely dared to imagine became reality: Marcello was adopted. 

The same dog who lay broken beside train tracks is now safe in a loving home. The same dog who arrived crushed and terrified is now cherished, protected, and surrounded by warmth. Watching his transformation has been nothing short of extraordinary. 

Your compassion carried him from the edge of death to actually being able to have a future. Every donation helped give him this wonderful chance.
